Ok, I totally did not expect this to be this much fun. Screenshots look very simple, but the gameplay is smooth and really engaging. I enjoyed the doublejump slashing so much and the multiplying-heads mechanic is just amazing.
Animations are pretty smooth too. Well done, especially for a COMPO entry.

PS: I didn't have any audio in my game, not sure if that was some kind of bug or your game actually has no audio in it.

Thanks @iluvatar :) game does indeed have no audio, and i think that voting bug... because i had disabled audio vote :/

What a great idea of fighting a hydra forever, quite a few small tweak of polish included, such as a tutorial (but then it also skips the tutorial on retries), great job

The art style and the animations of the hydra heads are very cool. I would not have minded if the beginning was "stretched out" a little bit more with a bit more monsters or jumping. I really like the gameplay. Good job.

Hey @linus-szkody yeah i'm agree and i planned to create a little story but with the time remained i choose to polish a bit what i had rather than add content without tweaking :/

Simple, but lots of fun! The hydra looks super goofy and I love it. Good use of the theme too! Maybe just wish there was a bit more variety like a few extra monsters attacking you as you fight the hydra, and some sound as well. Either way, a very solid compo title!

Thanks @vectrex28 i was thinking of different head with different pattern to more variety :) I like the idea that you face only the hydra and the mobs are its heads.

So fun!! Jumping off the heads with your attacks is super satisfying. I love the procedural necks too. I found ataccking downward to be weirdly difficult to time so just ended up using the normal ones instead. Charming graphics, not too shabby. All around just very fun!

Graphism is so cute. Loved how the monster keep eye contact(s) with the player. This creates an epic duel sensation.

That was fun! I don't think I ever really got the hang of it because I never got past 8 heads, but it was very smooth and fun to play. Great connection to the theme and executed brilliantly.

Obviously could use sound and music and I would have liked some other people to talk to or something because the "kid doodling on graph paper" vibe is really charming.

Nicely done!

The most theme-fitting entry I've played and rated so far.
And the developer myself keeps asking: those necks, how those necks are done so they seem so natural and flexi and so smoothly bending :)

The concept is quite original for a game jam!
There is a lot of room for improvement. I would have love to have more feedback on it, look sound, color change, FX etc... I think you tried to do a freeze frame on hit, but for me it ended feeling laggy (just because of the lack of feedback I think). I think that some form of invincibility frame after hit would encourage the player to take risk too and something like aerial combo with a lot of juiciness if you're doing well would have work so well!!

Anyway, the 3C are quite good for a jam game, it should need more polish and juiciness and it would be one of the most fun entry. Good job!

@onnofal thanks :) you can find code of the neck here (method DrawLivingNeck):
I use line renderer to draw the neck.

My best score was 21 heads chopped, at which point there were so many new heads that I got pummeled. Defeating a hydra by chopping off its heads is a nice interpretation of the theme . I liked the hand-drawn art style too.

I only realized that I could double jump because one of the comments above mentions it, but airborne combos felt pretty satisfying especially because successful hits could bounce me for an even longer combo.

It's kind of minor, but I like to use two different hands on the keyboard and spacebar is a bit awkward for both hands. I ended up using W to jump and L to attack, but it would have been nice if there was an option like ZX or KL for attack and jump.

Nice game, but the controlls don't feel that good, also could do with some music and SFX but i really like the art style

Wow this is really well done, I love the unique artstyle and the gameplay. I had a lot of fun playing and I will surely come back another time to play again. Also I really liked the beginning of the game, a clever way to introduce the player into the basic mechanics. As the others have already said, it would be cool to have some nice sound effects or music, I think that would also make a lot. Personally, I would also like to be able to jump and bounce on top of heads, because I intuitively tried that a few times, but got damaged. All in all, great game I really enjoyed it!

This is surprisingly polished! The only thing I'm missing is some kind of sound. Don't be scared to add it, you could use a random sound generator like https://www.bfxr.net/

The gameplay feels solid and the graphics have their own unique styling, I like that! Is there a special reason why you went with "graph-paper-scribble-style"?

this game is so much and the hydra idea was a brilliant way of using the theme, honestly its my favorite way of the theme use so far.

The graphics are great, and I love the paper aesthetic! The tutorial was well-integrated and quick and the cute hydra is the perfect enemy for the theme! The game feels polished, especially for being made in so little time! The only thing missing is an indicator to show when your attacks connect with enemies. I'd also suggest making it so touching a head while it's "resting" after attacking doesn't count as getting hit, as I probably lost most of my lives getting close enough to the heads to hit them while they're done.

Good job overall!

![hydra.png](///raw/b34/z/4dbdb.png) Very entertaining ! You procedural heads animation are gold. You seems skilled enough to make the whole dragon this way I would like to see these big legs stomping the ground !

I managed to slay 31 heads, I tried to cheese the game by staying just out of range which worked for the most part. A short game with a challenging but enjoyable endless boss fight with great potential for expansion.

Nice entry! I was hooked by the artstyle initially and visualy the game looks very cool! The gameplay, unfortunately, was a little frustrating to me, as attacking even stationary heads 80% of the time forced me to take contact damage even when I was deliberatly accurate with my moves. I would prefer to have invincibility frames or knokback on either the heads or player upon impact.

I think it's possible to "b-hop" on the heads which is fun!

@janniz thanks :) you can bounce on head with a down attack (I know i don't say it in tuto :/) just press S in air and attack. And i know for sound and music, i just don't like that :D but i ask to a friend wich is really strong for that.

@hatmajaster xD nice, yeah you can't go further, but you are safe here :)

@wouter52 thanks for the tips, i already tried to add sound in a previous ld, and i realy don't like it. :/
No Specifics reason, i tried it because i always want to (and it remaind me of my drawing when i was a child) and it's realy simple to do, that is a good point in jam.

@anaxie-studio I already try to fix all of these problem :)

@benjamin hum not sure the hydra will move. But just a stomp could force player to stay far ! nice point

@beats gg, more than 30 start to be really hard, my strategy is to stay in air at cac to hit heads before they have time to attack. A bit risky...

@alexhonor arf, i know the game is not so simple, i tried to improve that in next version.

This is a pretty great game! The concept is awesome and the execution is great. I'm so curious on your process and workflow as to how you made the hydra. It's such an awesome enemy! I can see this being a pretty awesome boss for a 2d game. It's fun and the attack jump is a fun way to combo on the heads!
The few issues relate to hitboxes. When a head is chopped off, sometimes the dead head still hurts, which is a bit frustrating. And also it feels as if the sword's hitbox isn't generous enough since it's a bit more difficult than it feels it should be to hit a head while jumping. I feel like it should extend downward a little bit more.
But other than that it's very impressive. Feedback is good and so is the main mechanic. Fantastic entry.

Good job!

This game is really fun! The art style is epic and the hydra's head movement is really cool. I especially like that when you hit the hydra, you get your double jump back. The only thing I didn't like about the game is that moving changes your direction in the air, making it harder to attack and dodge the heads. But other than that, the game is really cool!
