Monstory is a story based game that allows players to create and share their own stories! Monstory is built off of the twitter api and using hashtags to build a story by ANYONE!

How to make a story to share in game:
1) Write a story.
2) Tweet the story AND add BOTH #Monstory and a unique hashtag name (like a title).
Live example: https://twitter.com/search?f=tweets&vertical=default&q=%23MyFriendFred%20%23Monstory&src=typd

Developer Note:
@jstclair13 here. This code was written quickly and few hours of sleep. I may add comments and clean up some of the code if interested, after a lot of sleep!! :D Enjoy

Uploaded a new source because the old one had my token keys. I was tired and rushed...
Player can move left or right, but it is best to start to the right. :D

This game is built using Twitter's API to build user stories.

Here is a list of playable stories! Put the hashtag in the input field to play!
#MyFriendFred
#TodayIsThatDay
#Fangs
#Dreamstealers

You can load stories with each of these (one at a time) #MyFriendFred #Fangs #Dreamstealers! Or you can make your own story!

Cool idea! I think the execution needs some serious work, though.

Worked fine on Mac OS X! I'm glad to see you got a Twitter API working in Unity. I was looking for something like that. I also made a game that read a twitter feed, but ended up doing it on the server side with nokogiri. The Twitter API kept flaking on me. Thanks for sharing the code!

You should not share your keys/secrets/tokens though! They're in the source you released.

Amazing idea, though I wasn't always sure what exactly it did. It parses in tweets with a particular hashtag?

And then? How would one "level design" within those tweet characters? Do something affect the way the tweets are arranged in space? Or are they always descending to the right?

If so, what's the point? Just move to the right and read tweets?

There's potential here, but requires a lot of figuring out. As it is now it's a nifty twitter API hookup.

Very interesting, I feel like using tweets to write a story is not the best choice, because you need to make a lot of tweets to make anything super big, however.

It's a neat idea! If you trimmed the hashtags from the string then people could enter single words or even letters to add a challenge to the story in the form of small platforms. Maybe you could have additional hashtags people could add to insert obstacles or enemies or something in to the line. This concept has a lot of potential.

Thanks for the positive replies! I wanted to make this game in a way that the player or other people could reply to a section of the story and create an alternate story line or ending. I just ran out of time.

I like the idea of parsing out words to create a small platform.

I like where you were going with this, with a bit more time this could be an interesting text adventure game (or something similar at last) with constantly branching ending and options! Nice effort :)

The only gripe I have is that there's no way to go back to the main menu once you finish a story unless you close and restart the game but pretty interesting use of the Twitter API.

An interest idea to say the least but it lacked in the gameplay area. Perhaps each tweet could have been an obstacle course depending on the characters...?

I'm using the Windows build, and I seem unable to move beyond the title screen, regardless of whether I click a red hashtag or search for another tag that you've provided in the description. I even ran it as administrator, and still refuses to budge. Not sure what else I can try.

Wish I could check this out, looks really neat!

@Jelinib @solker Sorry, it is working now. Just found out that twitter's 'search' api is limited to the last 7 days.

I don't think it worked well for me.. I included it in part 31 of my Ludum Dare 33 Compilation video series, if you would like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/ZV7CU8j_StI
