Glub-Glubmarine by Frocto

[raw]
made by Frocto for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

When a lone diver's submarine springs a leak, you the player must guide him to safety.

Controls: arrow keys to move, space bar to anything else.

Known issues: - The sound is a little loud - The valves sometimes flicker when underwater (but you can still use them!) - There's no way to tell which valves you've already used - The Audio stutters a bit when the music changes

A nice, simple concept. Took me a minute to figure out the controls, so putting that somewhere would be nice.

Not sure if it's just me, but when the diver finished talking the game crashes and my whole browser kinda has a seizure.

Love the idea! I think prompts for the controls (specifically the space at the beginning) would be helpful

@graphite Thanks for the tip. We've updated the description to include a brief description of the controls along with a few of the bugs and problems we knew about but didn't have time to fix.

@alexio-games Oh no! :anguished: What browser/OS did it crash on?

Nice idea, but it took some time to figure out the controls, and what I had to use. Some instructions at the beginning would have been nice :)

Took some time to figure out but a fun little puzzle! Nice job, very tense when going deeper down with the water rising.

Pretty tense little puzzle that took me a few tries to figure out. Echoing what others have said about the controls being a little challenging to use, but nothing some tweaks couldn't significantly improve. More levels and maybe or two more core mechanics would be neat to think about too.

Cool puzzle game! I really liked how the music changed underwater. It felt really rewarding when i figuered it out and didn't get eaten by the shark :D. Good job!

Cool game! I like the idea of having a puzzle game but with time pressure so you have to decide and act quickly!
I think you could really build on this by adding more levels and so on.
Good job!

Cool little game, the underwater effect is a nice touch. I wasn't expecting so much tension given the colourful graphics!

Hello! It is a good combination of 3d and 2D art - it looks interesting. But for me art is quite weak. Maybe you should make all art in 3d or 2d. Or stylize all 2d to your 3d. For this purposes pixelart, i think, doesn't quite fit. But effects are great!
About gameplay - it is a really hard) I won but it was miracle I think. So maybe you should 1 make growing of water a bit slowler and 2 add arrows to doors to understand, which door direct to which.
But still nice try! Well done)

Really liked the mix of 2D and 3D art, it feels a bit weird but it still definitely works in something like a jam! The idea is simple and effective, but I dont really get the feeling of "inevitable" since you can actually solve the puzzle and survive

Certainly has potential, the mixture of 3d and 2d is quite interested as several people have pointed out, could probably use a prompt for "press space to start" or something in that vein, the music can get a bit grating, but these are gripes that are in the end personal to me, i think with refinement this could be a very interesting game to play if it was slightly longer. the short bitesize length is very good for an LDjam becuase people do tend to go through games quite quickly so being able to complete this rather quick is very convinient when people want to try lots of difffernt games

I did it! I escaped from the submarine lmao. I gotta the map design is potential that you could utilize more "backtracking" tech to guide the player to go through every details without feeling exhausted or disappointed. Nice Job!

Took some time to memorize algorithm of actions I need to perform. Great prototype!

Loved the slowing and getting low music when the little diver is submerged. You've already listed some little issues, but on top of that, I think there could be some kind of sound FX when we use a valve, it would add to the immersion (pun intentended).

Pretty nice :) I would add arrows to doors to know the path (or after passing the door for the future). I like the sloppy move of the hero and the music that depends on the water level. Cheers!

I'd love to see a version of this with multiple levels to figure out the pattern of! The water visual effect is really cool, I enjoyed playing a lot!

The art seemed very funny to me as well as the theme of the game, the truth is that it was quite difficult for me to play the character moved very slowly and the water rose very fast. I had several attempts and I couldn't save it, poor thing jajaja! I liked the idea, maybe I would like to see it with a more polished art, with a more defined style. Great entry!

All of the issues I noticed I think were covered under your list in the description... that being said, those issues did seriously detract from the game. Overall, it was pretty good... The audio was generally OK if it wasn't for how loud it was... It also wasn't exactly clear on how to progress, and the flickering valves didn't help that. I did manage to get through it though.

When I pressed space on the “delay the inevitable!” dialog, the music got lower pitched and then it went straight to the “try again” screen. Safari 15.4 (MacOS 12.3.1)
