Janko-navo by Jamtempisto

[raw]
made by Jamtempisto for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

Controls:

  • Arrow keys: move (and shoot)

Recoil-based controls. You move to shoot, and you shoot to move.

game.gif

  • With every shot, you move a little in the opposite direction.

  • You can also move diagonally.

Story?

The year is 2087. Esperanto became so successful that even the very stars became green.

You're the only non-Esperanto speaker left. It is out of principle: you come from a long line of proud Ido hipsters, for whom Esperanto is too mainstream.

Today, it finally happened. They found your hiding spot, at the end of the universe. The Esperantizing Melonoj start coming. You hop into your Janko-ship; it is a futile resistance, but you still have to do it...

Features

  • Multilingual: English, Esperanto, Ido and Portuguese (BR)

langs.png

  • Fancy parallax (following a tutorial by AlmightyZenTaco)

  • Made with Clickteam Fusion 2.5 for Windows (probably runs on Linux with Wine)

HTML5 Port (April 10 2022)

  • New touch control graphics
  • Changed overall screen resolution to include new screen buttons
  • The actual game screen is the same; I added a blue margin to it
  • I had to reduce the number of background stars because of the slowdown
  • The Windows version was not changed in any way

This a fun arcade game! Reminds me of the classics I used to play as a kid.

Very nice game!

Hello, fellow Fusion-developer!

I find the story funny, all the more because it doesn't really tie into the game itself at all.

The mechanics are simple but well put together and it's fun to play for a few minutes.

Keep on jamming, and long live ClickTeam!

Very interesting mechanics! It took me a while to get the hang of it but it makes a nice twist on a classic game! :) I found that a "tunnel-tactic" works very well (staying at the borders and tunnel to the other side)

A game that would feel at home in an arcade cabinet - the shooting+moving mechanics remind me of ["Switch 'n' Shoot"](https://www.mattglanville.com/switch-n-shoot.html) (which I originally did play in an arcade!) Great look and feel. I'm a sucker for parallax of all kinds :)

Pretty simple arcade game, though enjoyable. The control scheme makes sense when moving normally, but gets confusing when trying to aim to shoot. This works for a good mental exercise! The sound effects could be a bit softer, and seeing the score during the game would be nice. Good work!

Really cool idea. I really like the graphics of the space objects. Though it is simple, it gives the impression that it will take a while to master. I think it's a great mechanic that has good potential, and it's a great homage to the games that we grew up on. Congratulations on making something so coherent.

La ludo estas amuza! I did terribly at first but a lot better once I got the hang of it, which was satisfying. I'd be curious to try a version where you can hold a direction to move more, like in Asteroids. But the way you have it works well. The frame story made me laugh!

the story is pretty fun, the game itself is pretty simple but the idea is nice :)

Kiam mi venkiĝis, la teksto diris "Vi esperan**g**iĝis." Mi kredas ke ĉi tio estas eraro?
