Skate Guy by pikachurian

[raw]
made by pikachurian for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

Screenshot 2.PNG Screenshot1.PNG

Made in a day, this game was the offspring of not having enough time for our first idea and realizing that with only 10 hours left in the jam.

Skate Guy is trying to get some sick airtime; see how long you can stay in the air and delay the inevitable pull of gravity!

Use any button to play

Hold to tilt your skateboard up to slow yourself down

While not holding you will descend faster

hold (for menus) = select

Press (for menus) = select different button

Any game where you can leave the atmosphere is a winner to me. Left you a rating on GXC as well. (vote for Skeleton Punchers)

By far the most fun entry I've played of 15. And I love the input method(s)! Great game honestly

Made it to 936! Interesting concept. It wasn't completely intuitive, and I would suggest making the button holds a little bit shorter, as I was holding and nothing happened because I didn't hold long enough.

@jitspoe Thank you very much. If I had more time, I would have added an indicator on how long you've held the button. Congratulations on getting the highest score I've seen so far.

@exevirus Thank you for your comment. That means a lot since the other jam games were pretty fun. The reason I went with a single button input was opposed to the gameplay for the other game that got scraped for this jam, which was fairly complex.

@mooptychunk Thanks. The gxc rating is greatly appreciated. I was in the gxc notice me jam as well. I haven't voted for the no.1 game yet, but I'll be sure to consider skeleton fighters. That game actually inspired me to make the game for this jam simpler. Since our gxc jam game, fightcore, was a bit over ambitious.

Woooaaah we can go hiiiiiigh! Simple but effective game, with simple but effective graphics, simple but effective controls, and simple but effective sound FX.

The only thing I'm not sure about is the very beginning of the game: I'm not sure constantly mashing a button add anything to the game.

Well done with this game, I really enjoyed it.
