Ram or Be Rammed by korfi

[raw]
made by korfi for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

There's always a bigger fish in the sea, to eat or to be eaten.

In Ram or Be Rammed you need to delay the big bad truck from ramming you for long enough for you to pick up all the upgrades to your vehicle. Once you're bigger than the truck it's your turn to ram it. One thing is for sure, a crash between the two vehicles is inevitable, can you prolong it long enough and find all the upgrades before it's too late?

That was really fun! I really liked the differently shaped arenas. It was a great a-ha moment figuring out how to get to the upgrade that was surrounded by the rocks. The music and sound effects were nice, and I think for the future you could add a sound for the car driving that could change as you upgrade your car to be stronger.

My one criticism would be that some times it was hard to find upgrades on the symmetrically shaped arenas. Maybe you could color the different sides of the arena so you can distinguish what parts of the map you have already gone to, in order to make it easier to find out where the upgrades might be.

I really liked this concept. The different shapes for levels keep it fresh. Music and Sound Effects were soothing. I think having a different non flat texture on the worlds will help with distinguishing yourself at a certain spot in the level. On the ring map I went too fast and flew off the level xD.

Fun game, I don't understand where the theme is in it though...

i like the graphics, the controlls feel very weird, the differently shaped planets were probably not that easy to implement.
Liked it.

I had fun and I found the concept very nice, on the other hand the camera is a little nervous and can make you sick

A very interesting game. I really like this idea. There are some jamming issues, but these are minor.

Hehh that was good fun. I liked the music and missed some SFX on the trucks. The other levels were really cool, I wasn't expecting something like that. Great mechanics, too.
Good job!

Super fun, maybe the camera was moving a little too fast, but loved the torus level! Great entry!!

Wow! That was weird, really weird. But somehow, also very fun! I mean, running from a truck on a space donut while also trying to collect your car is surprisingly addictive - which makes no sense, but whatever, have a big plus for that trip :D

Really fun but i dont understand how the inevitable is inevitable. Big love on the donut level but it's easy to fly and idk if it's a bug or wanted

I do be rammed...RUDE! The sweet revenge when I finally got to ram tho!

A very fun entry, things became clear very quickly and the turns were just fiddly enough to make it a challenge. Clever use of obstacles and requiring the truck to demolish them.

The art is pretty clear, sounds were helpful but I would've liked a 'truck is approaching' noise when he gets closer for extra dread. The music sounds a bit randomized and doesn't really suit the gameplay though.

Not great on theme, but a fun game to play.

I loved this interpretation of the theme, with such a crash being necessary and inevitable, but you have to prepare in order to survive it! I also agree with @3bt, and a really sweet entry!

The gameplay was really enjoyable, though the enemy truck sometimes lagged and teleported. The map shapes were really original, I enjoyed your game a lot!

this game was just amazing! Nothing less! If you like ramming trucks you are gonna have a great time! I was surprised that after falling from the torus i actually died

Very cool and innovative concept! I had fun playing.

Some more texture on the sphere/donut would be great for people like me who tend to get motion sick from games with heavily moving camera ;)

Really fun concept with lots of variety and surprises. The camera and controls were a bit disorienting. Not sure if making the camera move more smoothly would help. Well done tho.

@3bt Thanks for your feedback, I definitely agree that a way to distinguish where you've picked up the upgrades would've been good, especially on the bigger levels! I'm happy you liked the game :D

@mimusangel @escarpoulpe Thank you for your feedback! The thinking regarding the theme was that a crash between the two vehicles would be inevitable and by delaying the (inevitable) crash for long enough you'd come out stronger than the enemy in the end. I do agree that we could've tied in the theme more however! Thank you both for your feedback and I'm happy you enjoyed the game :D

Excellent, simple, well-polished entry here!

...I SAY simple, but I can't imagine how much work it must've taken to have mix car physics with Mario Galaxy physics. O.o

I think the tiny planets really add a lot to the gameplay, though! Not knowing exactly where the enemy truck is at all times add a lot of great tension and comedic moments. I really enjoyed this one!

@dingledorf Why doesn't our toroid gravity work like this! Amazing work, big fan of your toroid gravity.

Very cool entry, I enjoyed it a lot! Some of the levels were really imaginative, I especially loved the torus level. Sometimes the controls felt a bit too sensitive and could be frustrating, but that was overshadowed by doing some awesome and very close dodging maneuvers to avoid the truck.
