This is a great foundation! I would say your next step would be to introduce some challenge to the player and a way to overcome that challenge. Maybe there's weapons or treasure in the darkness which prompts the player to explore away from the fire. Or the player could be rewarded somehow by feeding more wood into the fire. The enemies are all a little too easy to escape from and the sticks are always readily available.
