Mars-O-Tage by adncoach

[raw]
made by adncoach for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

Humans are about to invade Mars! But they have to build a base first. You must delay it for as long as you can!

Controls:

Arrows -> Move

Left Shift -> Sprint

E -> Interact

Q -> Cloak (or swap hole when you're hiding)

Esc -> Pause

Objective: Get close to a constructed object and hold E to sabotage it. The closer the object is to completion, the longer it takes to sabotage it. Mars rovers will try to stop you; avoid them! Every 4 sols (Mars days) a rocket will arrive carrying a new rover with it. It will eventually get too crowded.

cool, like dead by daylight but humans are villains, and generators need to be broken and not repaired :D

Cool concept and good execution. Wish you were forced to engage with the rover's paths a bit more, felt like it was easy enough to avoid them and only get detected after sabotaging something. Nonetheless it's pretty fun. Good work!

I really liked how you could sabotage something in one corner, attracting all the rovers there, and then using the quick movement between holes to get away and sabotage some more! I do think it would indeed be a bit more engaging if you could hide behind obstacles blocking the rover's line of sight above ground as well.

Thanks, @cievers.
Actually, hiding behind obstacles was the original idea, but I didn't have enough time to implement it. That's why rovers don't use their sight, but special sensors instead to detect you through obstacles =)

A definitely solid entry, it was very fun to play. I really like the fact that getting caught doesn't end the game but only give a timer malus. Impressive work for a single person, gg!

Going invisible was a little bit too op. I just tap it and they forget I was there lol. Still really enjoyed the game though

Pretty fun game game) Simple and clear concept, addictive gamplay and it could be perfect with more stylish UI and art. Anyway I like it))

What an awesome idea! This is a truly masterful experiment in game design. Reminds me of the 'Ultimate Assassin' flash games - but is actually more tactical and engaging, as you juggle multiple saboteurs and route yourself between the different machines. I actually love the art style, that quirky combination of 2d and 3d, and the music is quite catchy! The story is quite funny, and if you ever want to go back and add a bit more polish, I think this game could be truly one of a kind.

Really wonderful job - well done!

really fun game; I felt like maybe it would have been good if your sabotage progress slowly degraded if you have to break it off to challenge the player to risk going back when a rover goes past. Good idea well executed though

Great submission! Impressed with the amount of work in such a short timeframe. A single playthrough did drag on a little bit - the gameplay could use a bit more variety or risk imo, e.g. different types of bots, more of a penalty for getting caught. That said, I had fun and did play for a while. Nice job :)

Loved this one, I would have loved it even more if it had a win condition, but alas, the theme prevented that...

This was fun! I got into a bit of a loop with how I played, so I'd love to see an ability to dig your own holes, or perhaps the location of holes change to keep things fresh

I liked the game and the idea. I just felt a little disappointed of not finishing the game after getting caught. It gives me a sense of invulnerability even if I get a delay of time. Other thing that will make me more challenged is to put a timer on the top-tight of the screen.

A fun game I like the alien critter.
I got to 51 days. The amount of rovers gets ridiculous.

A lot of fun, it's the first stealth game I've seen this LD!
I like that you didn't play as some regular soldier, but an alien!
