Plants make people happy by yetanother

[raw]
made by yetanother for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

We (Laureline & Florian) made this little narrative/puzzle game about plants. It is inspired by our own experience with plants during the pandemic, the joy and the challenge they bring.

It is a relaxing and humoristic game, no reflexes needed and even if you fail the puzzle parts, you will get the full experience. You can get through it in less than 10 minutes.

This is a narrative game, so you need to read the text until the end to fully enjoy it (there is not much, fewer than 500 words, but it is important!). It is also the only way to understand the relationship with the theme!

We cannot compete on the graphic section as I modified some external vector assets, but you can still comment on the global style and the ambiance as I spend quite some time on it!

Florian coded this game entirely in JavaScript, with Phaser.

We hope you enjoy it!

Obligatory for me to play a plant game. I love my plants. I moved to a new apartment that was so dry even with misting multiple times a day my ferns and jungle plants dried out cause I couldn't be at home all day :( .

Hmm.. and what is reflected in the theme of the game jam?
The graphics, sounds and gameplay are super.
However, unfortunately, the theme of flowers is not close to me. I'm too "in the clouds" to care about flowers.

There is a great lack of explanation - which flowers are "friends" with which, otherwise it turns out that they have to be molded at random and look at emoticons.

I like the art style, its super cute and super chill. I'm sad that my plants all died in the end though. :(

Even if I stay at home my pot plants will rot away, but I like the small story. Sound and graphics are nice too.

This game is beautiful, but I have to admit I had a hard time figuring out the relationships between the plants, and what spaces were available to put plants. It was very relaxing and I enjoyed it overall, though!

I loved decorating my living room! And I can relate to getting many plants during this time and working so hard to delay the inevitable - that they die ;___;

This was a really positive surprise... you wrote to not stress too much on rating the graphics. So a specific comment on that one. I did really enjoy the look and feel of the game - and the graphics played really well into the combined entry. A simple concept - a cute story and well executed.

Using emojis -a simple and easy way to convey which goes together with what.
Of course - if this was to be something you played longer or you added more complexity - it might good with some kind of description on things

Good job both of you :thumbsup_tone1:

I really enjoyed playing, the visuals were really relaxing and the gameplay was also really relaxing! The concept was very funny, and the writing was great! I really liked the ending too... in reality, it's inevitable you'll get fake plants from IKEA...

The game felt very polished and the puzzle mechanics worked well too, some info on the plants would be nice like desert type plants work well with plant X, Y and Z for example, but the gameplay as it is, is very enjoyable! I really had a lot of fun playing this one, this is an amazing entry!

I was surprised when noticed that you can have plants in other places than the shelves. Very chill and nice entry. The mechanics are simple enough to grasp. And the narrative really adds to it. It was easy to play till the end. Nice aesthetics and composition too! Well done!
