Balancing Balls by Tan games

[raw]
made by Tan games for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

This is my first game jam and first game ever. Very simple game where you have to rotate the bar to balance a black ball on it.

For a first jam it's not bad at all! Don't forget to play and rate other people's games.

Nice work on your first game! It is very simple and straightforward but this does fit the theme and the game works so really as a first timer that's all you need. Keep it up!

Great game, it's simple and complex at the same time.

Congrats on your first game! It's a really solid entry!

It might have been good to have a score that increases faster the more balls you're balancing (or something along those lines), but it certainly doesn't need it. I thought I was being clever not necessarily needing to keep the blue ones balanced so thought I'd tip them off to make it easier, but each time I tried I lost the black one too - so probably didn't need a point system to encourage people like me to keep everything balanced XD

Having the white spots on the balls to make it easily readable how fast the balls are starting to roll away was a really nice touch too!

Well done!

This is a really fun concept! I love how the you sort of have "enemies" in the other barrels that fall down, it's really cool to have the way you use your controls messed with by their weight as the game goes on and it really gives the player a feeling of struggling to lift them. This is a really great game for your first ever - congrats on making it and good luck with your future in gamedev!

Nice and simple, works well. Would love to see where you can take this concept moving forwards, as it's obviously a little too simple right now. Welcome to the game jam scene!

@jhax Hmm, did not think of playing with the timer, nice avenue to explore. I was planning to add other actions on the black ball, like charging the ball for few seconds and allowing you to clear balls from one side. You would earn these charges if you kept more balls on the bar. I could not implement it well, so just decided to keep it simple for the submission. Thanks for your input.

@eli-delventhal I was trying to add more complex actions but could not implement them well for now. Will try to improve it with time. Thanks for commenting.

@benskca Enemies but also friends. If you have more balls on the bar then new ones don't disturb the balance too much but changing direction is harder. At least that was the idea but maybe the game in its current setup is skewed towards less balls on the bar. Will try to add more actions and ball types to improve the game. Thanks for playing and rating the game.

Very nice. There's so much strategy of whether you want to balance multiple balls, or try to inch one of the blue balls off the beam to make it lighter. My only complaint is I feel the torque you apply with the arrow keys is *just* a bit too low. Good job for your first game!
Note about scoring: I think you are [technically supposed to opt out of Audio](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules) scoring category since you used 3rd party soundtrack (unless YOU made the audio during the jam).
Anyways, keep it up!

As mentioned by a lot of people, it's a simple but fun game! Interesting concept with trying to balance the balls, especially as more get added (and trying to determine the best way to tilt). Hope you had fun making it!

@augustcoder In terms of the torque, yeah I need to test the game more, including new features to find the optimal torque. Even thinking of adding more torque as a temporary powerup that you get for removing specific color balls from the bar or something similar. Thanks for your feedback. In terms of opting out of audio, I saw required written in brackets and was submitting at the last moment so, I think I got confused thinking those fields are required. I have opted out of it now.

For a fisrt game ever it's very good! It has all the mechanics working. There's not much more I can say, but good job.

Simple premise but very creative in a sense,

the physics felt pretty smooth that was good

I lasted 34 seconds

I got surprised when more balls started falling

also the low poly background was pretty good

Please check out my game too!
