Time Rift by AustinJones

[raw]
made by AustinJones for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

Battle a handful of bullet-hell inducing crystalline monsters in waves that grow ever more intense as time ticks onward.

Make quick use of a number of weapons including: -Your trusty laser rifle. -A sweeping plasma shotgun. -An explosive energy charged laser grenade launcher. -An extended range laser cannon.

It might be futile seeing as there is no end to time nor these crystalline monsters but that has never been a problem for our unnamed hero. Having no history or origin and a crippling addiction to time dust, he's a galactic mercenary that's as much of an anomaly in space-time as his foes and naturally that means he's got nothing holding him back.

"It's not personal, it's just our inescapable cosmic destiny." -Our protagonist (probably?)

Really fun concept tbh, nice weapon types! Just missing sounds right now, but you still gave 5 hours :D
Love the clock in the Background, really reminds me of a bossfight from the game dreamscaper!

I would prefer if you add some AZERTY controls (just add Q and Z keys). Otherwise, the game is smooth and the concept solid. Congratulations.

This is a really polished entry, very cool! I loved the clock face as the level stage, my only minor feedback would be to add more indication when you take damage, as often I would die without realising I had taken so much damage

The graphics are nice and the gameplay feels good, I like that getting extra packs gives overheal and that this is different in the UI. There's an impressive amount of finish as well with the menus and different weapon types. I'd have benefited from some clearer visual feedback when you take damage or are low health but for a jam this is really good, well done :)

I liked the combat, having to hunt down the powerups to really get by was a good move as well as mixing up the gameplay. The waves built up well and got quite overwhelming so I enjoyed it overall. A little polish and it would be really satisfying to play

That's strange, you should be able to rate the game. There was definitely no intent to opt out.

It's a bit weird to have the sound off by default, as it's contribute a lot to the game feel. At least it didn't blow my ears out like it sometimes happens in ld games.

The gameplay felt a bit off. I don't play a lot of bullet hell games, but it seem to me that they generally have somewhat slow bullets moving in known patterns, or fast bullet with precise timing and feedback to announce themselves. Here with enemies spawning at random location, with some shot that seem to explode into more bullets and the view not covering the whole screen, it felt unfair.
