Cure Casimir by Bender Biber

[raw]
made by Bender Biber for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

Poor Casimir has a very bad cold. His mother told him to stay in bed bed, but suddenly Casimir wakes up in a strange land. Can you help Casimir to find his bed and get well soon? CasimirLogo.png Casimir has to sneeze every 10 seconds so try to be on safe ground when this happens.

  • WASD to move
  • Mouse to look around
  • SPACE to Jump
  • ESC for the Menu

The html5 performance is not the best so you might want to download one of the executables instead.

I really wish i had some time for creating more assets for scene dressing but Godot was not my friend during the jam :D

I like the texture and character design of Casimir. I've been wanting to try out Godot, it seems cool. I hope the little guy feels better in time for Cure Casimir II.

What a cutie pie! I like the levels and the character feel like a plushy toy. And the way he sneezes right after the jump sound hahaha. Sometimes I was just jumping and waiting for him to sneeze just to hear that combination. Anyway, everyone probably feels related to the sleepy characted during the Jam

Casamir is both cute and terrifying :joy: I love his human teeth :eyes: And a cute sneeze! I think the early levels might need to space the pickups further apart to add a bit of challenge. But a good entry, well done!

Fluent controls is a necessity for this type of game. Casimir doesn't jump when I want him to jump and get stuck in all kind of places. Platform jumping was a struggle with controls.
The character is very cute though, I feel the urge to to cure him.

@sohei Hmm interesting I did not now there where actuall places where you could get stuck.

Just had to start a Mario game to see his jump animation. He really has no *start jump* animation. I shortend casimirs animation quite a bit during the jam but I guess i should just remove it.

Getting controls for this type of game feel good is propably something I should not try during a Jam..

Really cool game design by incorporating the sneezing every ten seconds even when it was a bit frustrating in a fun way. The sneezing audio was really quirky and laughed almost every time it happened, so props on that. After many attempts on the 3rd level I had to quit as it was unachievable for me, but overall I would say that this was a really fun game.

- Couldn't get the pill so first think I tried was jumping up the wall, wound up walking right off the edge of the world. looks like it's a trick you can cheese a good portion of the game with.
- I get that the sneeze plays into the theme of the game, but losing control constantly is a bit annoying. Maybe if he sneezed while moving, it wouldn't distract from the game so much.
- The character is well made, but it's a green character on green grass so he doesn't stand out much. If he were red or purple, the colors would complement each other much better.
- The cloud level doesn't have much of a sense of scale or movement. More scenery would help.

@shaolin-dave thanks for the detailed feedback. The idea with sneezing is good.

I already started recreating the complete movement system but it would be much more than a Bugfix.

The contrast with the world is really a problem but I would recreate the complete Leveldesign if I continue working on it.

I tried to grab the first pill too but never worked xD Glad to see I wasn't alone xD. I hateeeeee so much his sneeze. Miss so much jumps because of that -_-. Overall, great game. Kind of the same platforms, but love the graphics, the character is so cute (and so slow lol). Good job!

Controls are a bit annoying: jumping is not immediate. But the character and concept are very funny! Overall - good job!

Fun character design and I like the overall concept. If you were to take this further I would recommend changing how the sneeze affects movement because I ran into the situation with the moving platforms of being ready to jump before a sneeze stops me and the platform is out of range by the time I can move again. Apart from some small tweaks to the movement though, great job!

Looks really nice and cute! The controls feel a bit "off", making timing my jumps hard. But I played the HTML5 version, so it might be related to that. A nice entry overall, good job!

The controls took some getting used to, and the sneezes seemed happened at times that prevented me from making platform cycles more often than not, but it's a fun platformer in the end. I also like the character design

Nice entry! The character was pretty cute and the game was understandable from the get go.

It was a little annoying that you lost control of the character when the sneeze happened, I missed timed jumps because of that and the cycles were kind of long.

Don't give up on godot though, it's a really good engine to make little games with!

Great job on the animation for the main character. I also really liked that Casimir was fully voice acted. It would have been nice to have a little more warning for when he sneezed so I could time jumps around it. Nice job overall!
