I don't know what was intended but it seems like I could only grab ingredients early on while standing right next to them, and it felt kinda buggy. Then you mostly just have to push ingredients around with your shlong for the rest of the game, which actually worked fairly decently. The directions of WASD should not change based on rotation though.
