Motel 88' by sammot

[raw]
made by sammot for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

A thriller escape room, in which you (the protagonist) must endure the torment of your captor, and evade his watchful eye. Through careful timing, and exploration, try and escape before it's too late.

Hint at the beginning: Look for a brick

CONTROLS: - WASD movement and mouse look - E to interact - Esc to exit the game

Aside: The theme of LD51 was ‘Every 10 seconds’. While we were unable to implement the feature that related to this, we wanted to take a moment to explain how this would have worked in a fuller version of this game.

The cameras around the room would shine a spotlight. If you were in that light, the captor would be able to see you. Certain actions performed here would trigger dialogue, or potentially level resets if your actions were particularly outlandish or disobedient. Thank you, from all of us for playing - and we hope you enjoyed it!

Nice graphics and mood but the controls are buggy for me. Can't really move and i dont know why.

@kostas-nik We've had a similar issue in an earlier build, it was to do with our implementation of the new input system for unity. Would you mind going into detail about how exactly it was bugged?

@kostas-nik Could you also state what type of input you used? Keyboard and mouse/gamepad/etc?

I think there might have been a problem with the UI scaling because the text was super tiny on my 4k screen. It looked amazing even without being able to play properly hahaha

Wasn't able to play the linux version: game crashed as soon as i launched it. Played the windows version with wine and unfortunately it was unplayable because of the laggy controls((

This game's graphics and mood are fantastic.
Maybe it's because my computer is so old, the movement of my view is so laggy.

Good looking 3d models and aesthetic. The camera seems a bit too sensitive and was not able to interact with anything but this was a good showcase of 3d modeling.

Not sure if I made it to the end (at the second time gas flowing in). Great job on the visuals and atmosphere, I'd really like to see how this turns out!

Good gameplay and nice 3D models. It's too bad you didn't have time to implement the theme, I think your idea for is very sound and could have lend itself to some very creepy Saw-like gameplay. Even though the jam is over, I think the idea is worth exploring further.

I really liked the aesthetic of the game! The hotel room felt very real and classic-horror themed to me.
I had a hard time figuring out what to do. I get that much of the functionality still isn't there, but what I'd give you as a tip for your further development is clearly communicating what the user is supposed to interact with. It took me a while to see the bricks, I feel guiding the user is a think I have also often overlooked myself.

It turned out very atmospheric, the graphics are impressive. The style of horror films about motels is sustained!
