Sick Sick Solitaire by Wertle

[raw]
made by Wertle for LD33 (COMPO)
Alas, I grew sick midway through the weekend, so had to submit what I had at the time, which is a completely un-themed, super hard type of solitaire where the black deck is your enemy but you have to use it to accomplish your goals all the same.

It's fairly harsh. Instructions in the game. If you've ever played Four Seasons solitaire it's got a similar vibe.

Edit: fixed a bug where you could get stuck in perma-win-state

I wasn't able to beat it, but you get into a bit of a rhythm just matching the cards and hoping you can complete it. Playing it I would have liked to be able to refresh the deck, I guess it's game over for now when you reach the end.
I also expected that I could drag stacks, but right now you can only see the card underneath.

I liked how the outline highlights possible places you could place something, it's useful for when you think you can rearrange something.

Card games are different, so cool.

On web, the cards backgrounds are transparent over the instructions but solid over the tableau, woah z-order madness.

Interesting take on Solitaire, but how does it fit the Monster theme?

Initially I found it really awkward that I have to click the red/black decks twice to get access to the next card. After playing a little I realised why but I feel like the UI could be improved somehow to make it less weird when there's nothing in the available part of the deck.

Would be nice if I could see an entire stack.

Got to 6/2/1/3 before I got into what I think was a state where I couldn't do anything, but wasn't 100% sure.

Great job on the game, I loved the whole good vs evil being displayed in the game's mechanics. Overall extremely entertaining and with a bit more polish it could be a real great experience.

feldaar - It does not fit the monster theme at all, but not for lack of planning. I just wasn't able to finish the game because I grew ill midway through the weekend.

Draknet - those are definitely the top two pieces of feedback that I just didn't get to address. Mostly I want to make it so you can just drag the top card off the deck normally if you want. If I ever went back to it, those would be the two things I'd do first.

I enjoyed this quite a bit. I think this would do really well as a mobile/tablet game polished up. Too bad you weren't able to continue the Jam.

Too bad you wasn't able to do something that would fit the theme but at least you made something and I actually like this little take on Solitaire.

A bit confusing at the beginning, because the gameboard is the tutorial/help at the same time, didn´t realized it first. Making a card game is a really nice idea, but where are the monster?^^

I won with 9/20 score! Its a great solitaire game, with some nice thoughtful mechanics. I am really curious how you were going to theme the game! Don't get sick next time! :)

Good idea but it does not really fit the theme

Man this is one tough solitare game :-) It would be cool if you could at least turn the decks over and perhaps get a second play through

Fun game! I beat it on the second try, mostly by accident. The graphics are minimal and get the job done, I really enjoy the smooth card movement (even enough to give you graphical credit for it, had I been able to). I especially love the indicators that show you the possible moves, it is obvious that you put a lot of time and effort into general gameplay. The audio was decent, it actually reminded me of my previous individual entry from LD 32 (as user Os_Reboot). Overall this was very enjoyable and well-designed game, I'm actually giving this 5/5 in fun for the feel and smoothness. Nice job!
