LEXO 🐀

The Time of the Rats

Gameplay:

The game is set in a clockhouse, where an unfortunate accident has happened to an unlucky machine, so it finds itself constantly restarting in every 10 seconds, and its only hopes are some mind-controllable lab-rats and a handy chip attacher tool.

Try to get through the not-so-difficult (yet.) maze with your puppets, solve puzzles (at least 3) with them, so you’ll maybe, maybe find a solution to this conundrum.

When you find a solution to a puzzle, the main ticker and the moving cogs will slow down, as you change the behavior of the main clock itself.

Oh, another thing. Our cute, playful and harmless cat, Lexo, has gone missing. We’d really appreciate, if you’d call us if you see her somewhere along the way.

Controls:

You can control the player character with the A (left) and D (right) and “detach” from the currently “used” rat with the Backspace button.

How to I get past the second wheel. I "detach" everytime i get past it. Other than that the game looks and feels good. Nice done :)

Really liked the atmosphere, but I could not go to the switch, the mouse cannot "jump" to the other side :(

I can't arrive to the switch the rat dies everytime in the dual engine

Such a good idea! But it took me waaay too long to get the crate down. Died like 20 times on it to give it some weight, but in only went down so little. Don´t even know, if that is the way to get to the switch tho. xD

I like the idea of using mind controlled rats and using them over and over again.
Fits the theme pretty well.
The music is pretty chill and gives the game atmosphere.
It also looks good and I like the animations

There's an issue we found too late in the development process. You must die on the right side of the seesaw to keep the button triggered. **Update: Fixed**

And for the boxy part: You're supposed to hoist up the box to be in level the floor,
as there's nothing under it. 📦⬆️

I like the idea. Sadly i couldn't get past the part with the shaft on the left after turning the three wheels.

Wonderful game! I like the art, sound and level design. Very nice work!

I love the art and the idea. I definitely assumed that the goal was to weigh down the crate with a bunch of corpses to get lower. I think that could be addressed by preventing it from going down more and more after a few rat corpses.

Cool game, I love the mind controlled rats mechanic. Also pixel arts and sounds really great.

Really fun concept and fantastic art. I took got stuck on the box but I'd love to play a full game of this :)

Great concept and love the art! Its a little hard to plan right now as the timing of all the elements doesn't sync up to the 10second loop - maybe that can be linked? Other than that its great fun and connects really well with the theme!

@simono There's a (maybe too) hidden mechanic when you can offset the timing by "detaching" early. After releasing the game I've come to the realisation that it would be a lot simpler to reset the timing with every respawn, but we are rolling with it for now :).

This was the perfect balance of cute and morbid. I really like the mechanic of making small progress with each life and the text really added to the overall theam and feel of the game. I really enjoyed playing!

Funny game! I liked art, and the mechanic was simple to understand and thematic.

The controls were mostly fine, but they got really janky on the rotating gears. I really appreciate that they were simple, making it easy to get started.

I found it a little annoying how I had to start at the beginning every time I died. I understand that's the main mechanic, but maybe if restarting was quicker it wouldn't be an issue (for me).

I eventually gave up after raising the box and encountering the three spokes with the gear. It wasn't obvious to me what to do next and I didn't want to spent many :rat:s figuring it out.

Overall, I think, with tweaks, this has the potential to become a really fun and original "full" game.

The visual looks great and I had fun playing it. I think having a check point would lessen the difficulty but overall a good game.

The mice are adorable! The mice are stealthy, maybe the stealth mechanics could be used in future versions of the game!

Very nice interpretation of the theme.
Art was incredibly detailed!
I had problems unterstanding under what circumstances the cat attacks, but more often than not it would leave me alone.
Great puzzles, took me a few mice before i understood not lower the pulley with the weight of a dead rat :)

This was a lovely game, I like the graphics as they have a vibe from older games. I didn't understand couple of the puzzles (the lowering box and 3 rotating thingies) but still managed to get to the switch in the end. Well done!
