Heart of Infection by OffworldDemon

[raw]
made by OffworldDemon for Ludum Dare 51 (COMPO)

Every 10 seconds, the Heart of Infection beats. Screenshot 2022-10-02 1711128.png

Most textures were generated with Stable Diffusion.

Going into this jam, I wanted to make a first person game with an immense sense of scale. When the theme was announced, I thought it would be a really cool idea to make the world shake every 10 seconds, while putting an horror spin on it.

I love the visuals, and I love the way the gameplay ties in with the theme. The use of the moving textures really makes the world feel infected and alive... The look of the game along with the audio gives of a really good eery feeling.
The mood is perfect, although I think the voice of the character does ruin it slightly, I found myself giggling a little bit cause it sounds like weird AI morgan freeman and I couldn't really shake that off.

I like how the shaking effects the obstacles but I didn't find the game very fun when a mistake would reset me completely back to the start, it made it pretty unfun unfortunately to the point where I did not reach the end.

What a surprise! Really great atmosphere inside the game.. world and textures are awesome and the sound design is dark and correlated to the "gamefeeling" . I think i'd reduce the "slippy" effect when you stop to walk because it makes the controls much harder (and harder when you have to jump!)

Vibe is reminiscent of game: The Void (2009) but more scary...
