Pumpkin Prowler by Spice Cabinet

[raw]
made by Spice Cabinet for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

Made in 72 hours for LD51: Every 10 Seconds

I apologize for potentially loud audio. I didn't have time to balance it or add settings.

You're just working out in your field, trying to collect your pumpkins and put them in your truck. JackOLantern.png But...something is out there on the prowl. Every 10 seconds or so you see a flash of light and you know something's around the corner. Sometimes you can even see a shadow in the light of your Jack-O-Lanterns. Don't let it catch you, even if that means you have to drop your pumpkin and hide in the corn.

Controls

  • W, A, S, D to move
  • [Space] to pick up and drop your jack-o-lanterns
  • Walk into the corn and press H to hide
  • Escape to pause

The graphics for your cover, your characters and other bits were AWESOME. The ui maybe a bit bland, but i get that in game jams the GAME is the main thing, have it working and all that. And it was pretty decent gameplaywise, I do like the take on the theme, its unsettling to have the baddy disappear. Also points for doing it halloween themed, after all it is the season muahaha

It was very hard to understand what to do and what the controlls are, very counterintuitive, art is solid, but rememvber that no one reads the conrols, the in-game tutrorial is the best option

nice, clean graphics, though I wish there was more depth to the environmental art. music was a bit loud and repetitive, but overall it played well and was challenging :)

Unsettling atmosphere! good job on the darkness

Every time I wanted to run away from the reaper I ended up blocking my own path with the dropped pumpkin!

The graphics are neat, but I agree that is hard to understand the controlls, but i like the theme

Spooky! The idea of showing death in the light of a pumpkin is just brilliant

Love the art and animations, this game was surprisingly spooky for such a cute art style. The walls don't really fit with the graphics I asume you didnt have time to draw the walls. Also my game has a reaper too.

Nice clean graphics with a very good mood for a jam game - this game really makes you think before you act - and the game hits that perfect level of difficulty where its not too hard but not too easy. Really enjoyed this one and my only complaints are stuff thats limited by the jam!

I liked it. The gameplay is simple and efficient and the art style is nice (would have love to see applied to the whole level). The camera movement is bit weird (I'm guessing it tries to follow both the player and the prowler) and it's a bit hard to avoid the prowler (maybe other clues of its position could help). But overall a fun game, well done !

Graphics were super clean! I love the cover art, it looks so beautiful. I wish you had gotten to adding art to the corn fields and maybe some background art for some more immersion but other than that no complaints from me!

Great job friend :)

I jumped more than once. XD
I played for a couple wins, it was a lot of fun!

I ended up cheesing things by creating pumpkin chains so that I had visual on the enemy if they came within a certain distance of me - which was really fun.

Creating a jam that lets the user be creative is really tricky and you did it.

The only critique I have is maybe making the corn somehow textured? But that's just me trying to always make sure I give a "room for growth" comment. You knocked this one outta the park! :D
