Imminent
Our third attempt at Ludum Dare! This time we have created a game based on ongoing real life events. So if anyone is taking modern military conflicts too close to heart, consider this as trigger warning.
You are playing as Alya, fresh from Academy Lieutenant commanding Fox-10 squad. Alongside your squadmates young volunteer Neka and battle hardened veteran Suzu you are manning an anti-aircraft vehicle named "The Carapace". Look at the radar, pick approaching air targets and try to intercept them to save the day for your allies and civilians alike.
Controls
Control the cone of fire with A/D or arrow keys.
Use left click to select targets on the radar.
Press yellow button to reload the tubes, red button to fire rockets!
P.S. Share your highest score in the comments

EDIT: I WAS NOT AWARE OF WHAT THIS GAME’S STORY WAS IMPLYING, AND MADE THIS COMMENT WITHOUT BEING AWARE OF IT’S INTENTIONS.
Unfortunately, "Settle score" button and result screen did not make it into final build -- we tried to get too much in it so it was both unfinished and broken.
We'll sure make it in post-jam version, it was a shame to cut it last moment. Alas, that's what the jam is
EDIT: I WAS NOT AWARE OF WHAT THIS GAME'S STORY WAS IMPLYING, AND MADE THIS COMMENT WITHOUT BEING AWARE OF IT'S INTENTIONS.
Other than that, the game is superb.
The game was a bit confusing to learn how to play. It took me a while to realize where my cone of fire was. I also ran into this strange bug where it appears that enemies would not be cleaned up after they were destroyed. I could still select them, but I couldn't shoot at them. It definitely made such a stressful game more overwhelming
Thanks for your feedback!
I understand that it's OK to play Counter Strike for the terrorists. But praising the current day terrorists... Who kill innocent civilians, just right now... it's too much.
Just on the day when Ludum Dare theme was announced the "heroes" of this game have shelled a column which consisted of civilian cars leaving 30 killed and 75 wounded.
What are you aiming at, making a game about russian terrorist state?
I understand that this might be a traumatic experience, but I would still suggest to continue researching different sources not from your curated news feed.
Having a balanced world-view is good for your mental health :)
I can give you a hint. You've been fed a strict undisputed narrative, your information bubble is thick and constantly reinforced. You are not questioning even the most odd claims. You have turned yourself into the relay of propaganda. Don't think, just spread the word.
What a sad sight.
We get it buddy. Collect your victim points and get out of here. Just because you found yourself nice bubble to live doesn't mean everyone in the world should comply with your views and bow to your demands.
As for glorifying violence, "rushism" (whatever that is) or anything else you imply, game has none of that, which can be easily verified by, you know, simply playing the game.
But you're angry not because of that. You're angry because something contradicts your worldview and you want it gone.
So you'll claim whatever to get get game pulled, authors blocked and critics go silent.

So many words about worldview. If you guys so concern about it, why you develop shitty games instead of came to enlistment office, come to us and proof to world that your point is true? Also you can protect civilians from their dental implants as did your worldview-friends recently in Pisky-Rad'kivs'ki, Kharkiv Oblast

Among all these useless threads, I have only one truly serious question for u guys @nicekot, @amikatag, @t90: **hui budete?**

Insulting and bashing each-other is not what we do here.
Using AI art it impressive.
You got everything mixed up buddy. This game does not praise neo-nazi ukranian regime in the sligtest. In fact you are playing as a Russian SAM defending civilian population and military installations from the attacks of ukranian terrorists.
And then post your precious opinion about world politics sitting in a shithole with a stolen washing machine and toilet.
For normal people, I would advise spending your time on real game entries, in terms of comments and ratings

So maybe some deeper tutorial will be great for that game, at least on the itch page.
Also I want to say, that icons with characters at the top-left corner is really good idea, so I can feel that they interacting with the player.
Nice job!
Best wishes from TOS-1
Here, have some pics of good hоhols, pretty nice example of the future of their comrades :)

(t. pro-Russian)
P.S. Didn't try the game now, but it actually looks interesting
Right now they are spamming the owner of Ludum Dare in twitter, using false moral arguments to push him to delete our entry to LD. And this was also expected.
Anyway, if you decide to try the game, we would appreciate any feedback!
I like the idea, and execution is pretty good. I did encountered a bug with ammo counter (one bulb always stays lit), but it's very minor.
One thing i missed, however, is hit feedback. It would be cool to see missile tracks, or - since it would make situation less "fog of war"-y - a list of active missiles and their targets. So you know that your missile flies at some target, but you will find out if it hit or not only after next radar sweep.
P.S.: Nice to see Godot being used, i need to get back to that engine one day (but i am lazy :P)
Now the complaints. There is absolutely no training. It took me a long time to guess how to control
rocket launcher, what parameters are responsible for what. The paper on the right does not help.
Absolutely incomprehensible system of destruction.
Under what conditions the missile hits the target, and under what conditions it does not hit?
I hope when the development is over and it become a stand-alone game,
these problems will disappear. Good luck)
Still hope to play some (J)RPG based on this topic.
Giving that we had only three days to develop the game from scratch, it was necessary to cut a lot of corners and butcher bunch of ideas/features.
Right now we are thinking about adding a story mode with a few missions and built-in tutorial, refining the mechanics, cleaning the UI, fixing art and getting rid of the bugs.
As for the hit probability, it's just a percentage based probability depending on the target type. That's it.
Truly ironic that people using western event to spread propaganda whitewashing unlawful invasion of Ukraine and atrocities that russian army has committed. All the while russian regime gone not only full hitler, but also full retard given their continuous setbacks and losses against much smaller country to which they can only answer with indiscriminate shelling of civilians and infrastructure, generating extreme amounts of copium claiming they're waging war against whole "western world".
So if the authors are making this game from the safety of some western country, their mental gymnastics are truly something astonishing.
Otherwise you have my praise for finishing russian project with the least amount of budget stolen (given that it was null to begin with). And while you probably won't make it to russian military R&D, I do hope that you get drafted and will try your luck against HARM missiles as a crew of SAM launcher or more likely just get thrown at ukie positions with mosins or rusty aks.
Anyway hope you makes some tutorial cause I really don't understand how to shoot things
thanks for the delivery
Thanks a lot for your feedback. There will be definitely a tutorial and more content in general with patches.
Regarding your take on the "generally wrong" side it's much more complicated to it then "just one country attacking the other". We are in this strife for a very long time, the war didn't begin this year, not even 8 years ago. I would gladly explain the history behind the current military escalation, but I just don't think that comment section of Ludum Dare game-jam is the best place for history and geopolitics discussions :)
Further improvements such as shelling active nuclear power plants, misplacing millions of winter uniforms, and having to remind VDV pilots what the concept of dry land is. Maybe add a new game plus called "mobilization mode" where you have no ammunition or supplies and instead of a UAV it's the same DSHKa that your grandfather used during the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia. I think anime girls are fine but you really need to immerse the player into the grimdark reality that you have been sent like lambs unto slaughter by a collapsing kleptocracy that has already begin killing each other back in Moscow. Except for Dugin's daughter, that was probably a collaboration between the CIA and Ukrainian intelligence assets and you gotta admire the pizzazz of a car bomb detonating in the middle of the Moscow night.
Anyway wish you all the best of luck when the army inevitably mutinies en masse because Russian logistics are so overtaxed they can't feed their own troops. It's gonna be hard to release updates when, in a panicked last-ditch effort to quell dissent, Putin's inner circle shuts down the internet.
10/10 game.
mind explaining?
(Извиняюсь что без конкретики по игре)
Actually, that's very easy to explain.
1. Short explanation: due to how Godot (engine used by our game) packs game into single binary, it might trip some antiviruses.
2. Long explanation.
So let's talk how Godot (game engine) works.
Game is written in scripting language GDScript. At first, scripting language is compiled in bytecode. When packing game in single binary, you get to choose — have separate archive with code and assets (GameName.pck) or embed that PCK file in engine binary (Checkbox "Embed PCK" in export options).
So, we have a binary + code/asset archive packed together. What does that prove?
Now let's create simple project in godot with no code, export it with enabled PCK Embedding and upload it to virustotal.
https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/744eda257a90b5146a0460210f26ca055dd524b4fd602d567d39fc08255403dd/detection
Boom! It has the same 1 warning -- from same vendor -- and even same signature. It's an **empty project**.
By the way, you can totally do it yourself, go to https://godotengine.org/ , download IDE, create empty project, save Root scene, then Export project (Check "Embed PCK") and upload your file to virustotal.
---
Issue about that in Godot github: https://github.com/godotengine/godot/issues/45563
---
If you still don't believe it, let's take someone's else Godot game with enabled "Embed PCK".
For example, this Ludum Dare 49 submission, The Blue Bedroom:
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/the-blue-bedroom
Aaaand it's virustotal page:
https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/67fb9622ed1b988118233e88a449ebc13deb94518ccaae4fef8db35ed7c8d167
Same warning.
---
And it you still don't believe us, simply play HTML5 version. Either here, on Ludum Dare website, or on Itch.io. I personally recommend Itch.io, it has correct dimensions (Ludum Dare website doesn't allow us to set custom viewport dimensions, neither it has option to enable fullscreen.).
Don't worry about the sillies in the comments. The truth is on your - our - side, after all <3
As for the game, I'm looking forward to the post-Ludum Dare version. I'd suggest putting instructions in the game if not an outright tutorial, because as it stands I'm not quite sure what I'm doing. Additionally, maybe the ability to skip the intro in some way ("skip intro button", "story mode" that has the intro and an end state vs. "infinity mode" that skips the intro and just goes forever, &c.). Also there's no way to exit the credits screen or exit the game (or pause the game) so maybe add that into the finished product. I know most people have told you all this already, I'm just reiterating it because they're my criticisms for the game as well.
Wish you all the best and don't let the Hohols get you down.
