GRABOUL by mattguil

[raw]
made by mattguil for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

First Game Jam for us. It was a total mess. This was supposed to be a party game. It is... in a certain way... Not a party game, definitely.

BUT we had fun and if you have any feedback to give us, make yourself at home :)

Good game, good fun!

PS: Menu uses a mouse.

PSS: Victor Brunelle is the GOAT, thank you! Your music is just dope!

Nice one, loved the art and music

The concept is great and could benefits from having some goals on the level to force the player to move, like coins to grab or something'

Great work 👍

Fun game. Like that every time the level spins there is a different environment. Pretty challenging to doge and watch out of the spikes/lava. Art tyle is cool and music is funny. Nice job!

Games really cool! I like the crazed music and how the orientation changes every 10 seconds as I didn't know what was going to happen initially. Nice job!

I was very surprised when the gravity changed. Well done!

Great jam entry! I could see this being a really fun multiplayer game with a few additions. Very cool concept and execution and I like the trailer a lot!

Loved the music and the idea (we had a similar one, but decided to go with something else). Feel like it needed a bit more variation in the bullet patterns as those were quite easy to dodge, also when the gravity changed you really shouldn't take any damage or the bullets should not be fired for a couple seconds. As someone else mentioned an incentive to move would have been a good addition.

Interesting way to do a bullet hell like game

The level rotation was really difficult to encounter. I found myself falling to spikes more often during the rotation than getting hit by the bullets. Most of the bullets could be safe-spotted since the patterns didn't really change.

The character controller was solid and responsive, so I probably just had a major skill issue with the gravity part :D

Fun little game! Idk what it was about it, but I was groovin to that music! took me a minute to realize the arrow in the center told me what the map was going to do. At one point, I found a corner that I stuck the character in and they were safe for a few rounds, lol. Good Job!

I really enjoyed playing this game tho sometimes it was hard to navigate trough momentum of gravity change + bullets. Liked graphics, liked music) Good entry!

Interesting idea. Great art. Overall well done.
Character controls could be improved a bit. Try increasing the acceleration.
The jumping resets the character's horizontal speed, not sure if that's intentional.

Good concept, decent execution, but it's definitely missing some goal other than just survive - either a multiplayer component so you have opponents to eliminate, or something to collect.
Also, sometimes if you're near a wall when the gravity changes you can clip into it.

We were indeed planning on making this game a multiplayer party game, but we had trouble with Unity's input system so we didn't have time to finish it for the jam!

The bullets were an addition to make this a little more interesting, but they need some balancing!

Thank you all for your feedback!

The core concept is very nice! We had some gravity based ideas during our conception phase, but couldn't get it past that stage, but this is a good idea! Simple but creative. I wish there were more variety, after a while it kind of loses it's novelty, but definitely a good one to build on!

The character controller is a bit slippery, for a game like this I would definitely prefer a very tight control of the character, as the challenges are everywhere, but good job overall!

Very nice! The rotation with the bullets works well, and I can see where this can get hectic as a party game, especially if you add interactions between the player (being able to push/pull each other around, change gravity outside the timer, cause more bullets to spawn, etc.). It's got a great vibe already, excited to see where this goes!

The thing that stood out most to me was the characters animations were excellent! Great job there. I thought the movement control felt fine, the slower movement made it easier to make sure we landed exactly where we wanted to. I think you've got a good start here and would be excited to see what this would have turned into if your team had more time.

Pretty cool idea, I can see how this could be a cool multiplayer game with pickups and stuff. As it is it becomes sort of easy and repetitive after a while. Also there was the occasional glitching into the gronud when rotating. Regardless very interesting game and concept. The art looks nice. Good job!

Really cool interpretation of the theme, and lots of fun to play! Well polished and the art is great.

Would be cool for the game to be a little more dynamic, whether that be more complicated shooting patterns, the terrain shifting around or enemies on the levels.

Great stuff.

"Thats the best name we got" is the full Ludum Dare experience. Cool concept especially with the seasonal element of it but yeah I'd agree with the platforming feeling a bit too slippery. Nice work!
