Endless runner, kind of. Get the the exit (flashing box thing) without dying.

Desktop: 'x' to jump, mouse to shoot/aim
Mobile: Touch a wall/floor you are on to jump, everywhere else shoots. Supports multitouch. Yes, it's really hard.

Tested in Chrome and Android (also Chrome). Let me know if it works in something else for you.

TIPS!

Going faster lets you jump higher (centrifugal force).
Holding jump lets you jump higher.
You can wall jump (also reverses direction).
Shooting has recoil, which you can use to slow down or speed up.
If you want to play fullscreen (say, on your mobile), follow the web link instead of playing inline above.

Unfortunately I didn't manage to integrate the theme in any meaningful way. You're a bad dude, you're red and you've got a gun :D. Maybe a devil escaping to heaven? Ran out of time to do proper art.

Thanks for playing!

Edit: the postcompo has a lot of updates and bug fixes, you should rate me on the original version, then, I guess, go on to play the post-compo version if you like it. I'll keep updating it as I add features for JS13K. Still got a couple of KB to play with

Yeah it has not much of the theme, but as you are not asking for rate in theme it's ok.

About the game, I like the gameplay, but for me it as very difficult to climb higher.

Nice concept. I got a feeling it's little buggy (unreasonable direction changes, had crash also) but it's a neat gameplay. Great job!

I love this game. It follows the rule “Easy to learn, hard to master.“ nicely. Haven's got to the end though. It performs kinda bad on my Kindle Fire (for a reaction based game), so if you do a post-compo please keep an eye on performance.

Interesting concept. I was confused about how to actually control the movement. Also just a heads up when the game is embedded if you hit space it also scrolls down the page so may want to change the action button to something else.

Controls are a nightmare in my laptop because the touchpad stops working for a second when I press a key, making dealing with enemies a nearly impossible task... I understand that my laptop is the problem, though.

The game is seriously fun. Even when I wasn't making progress, just building up speed and walljumping around was entertaining. Speaking of making progress, I feel that restarting the whole game when the player hits an enemy is a bit harsh... Maybe a life mechanic would improve this, dunno. I couldn't get past level 3, so I don't know how lengthy the game is.

This is a very cool concept, and I'd really like to play more of this! Great work!

@legacycrono ...I haven't made it past level 2, and I wrote the game and I'm using a mouse!?

Nice game, theme notwithstanding. Losing momentum is really quite bad and it's easy then to slip back down quite a lot. Do like the ability to reverse direction and gain speed with a wall jump.

I love how curvy it is! Runs really smooth too. Simple in a good way. Great work.

So I fixed that touchpad problem I had by remapping the X key to Ctrl using AutoHotKey, and now I can play it much better! (well, as good as one can play with a touchpad anyway :P)

Now I can shoot while I'm jumping, which changed for me how the game is played considerably. Now I absolutely LOVE this game. The recoil lets you do cool maneuvers, lets you ascend much faster and lets you avoid traps that normally wouldn't be possible. It feels awesome. Thanks to that I reduced my best time in Level 1 to 0:16 :D

I can consistently reach Level 3 now, but I still couldn't beat it (yet). Enemies are still tough to handle, but at least now I don't feel hopeless against them. Because of the recoil, if you shoot an enemy during a jump you're likely to lose speed and fall down.

I'll try again tonight to see if I can beat Level 3 (and perhaps beat the game). Again, awesome job!

@LegacyCrono thanks for coming back for more! I feel bad though, there is no end, just more difficulty. I guess the unofficial end is when the random number generator puts so many walls and spikes in that the exit is unreachable. I'm going to polish it for js13k, I'll ping you the link on twitter when I do. Thanks again!

It's a goo game, but like some people said, the theme is not shown in the game.

The concept of the mechanic is really great but it neds some tweaking execution wise. The wall jump in order to change directions feels a bit off. The graphics are nice and it definitely needs some music. Great entry nontheless, I'd like to see it more developed in the future.

Really nice idea, though I kept dropping down because of that huge gap in the middle :)
Not sure if it was my computer, but I found the controls to be lagging slightly, making timing difficult (I was playing the full screen version, as the in-line version would move the page every time I jumped)
Great work!

The game is very original and the switching direction mechanic is quite helpful.
It kind of remends me of Super Hexagon

The circular level looks really interesting. I couldn't figure out how to accelerate. It seems more or less random.
