Cursed to Hop by Weston Goggins

[raw]
made by Weston Goggins for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

My first game jam! I'm glad with how it turned out.

In this auto-scrolling beat 'em up, play as a band of rabbit adventurers defeating dangerous dimensional monsters.

Unfortunately for the party, they've been cursed by an evil dimension-hopping kangaroo to be pulled into a different plane of existence every 10 seconds. Be on your fluffy toes because those dire wolves may turn into fiery hellhounds or magical foxes at the drop of a hat!

Controls (detailed in-game): Arrow keys + left/right shift.

Playtime: 5-10 minutes.

Clever game, shame I didn't realise you could swap players positions till level 3. Feels like the archer and the wizard are the same, if there was a "shield" that could block projectiles could make it a bit more strategic?

Cool Game. I enjoyed the "eeevil" text in the hell background.

Wwwwhha it's too much for my brain to understand that awesome game mechanic first time around! Playing three lanes, holding to go further on some, having delay for one of them.

Maybe having the character come out one at time, to have some tutorial moment would be better than the text at the beginning (I was not understanding it, having not tried anything). Tutorial mode is a pain to make, but it will really make your game stands out if you can pull it up.

At some points I thought it would be better than the arrow key to use a key on each row of the keyaboard to match their lane. but Switching lane broke my mind a bit more.

You clearly have a good set of mechanics, but they are not for me!

Took a moment to understand the controls, but solid little lane battler once I figured it out.

The game mechanics are very interesting, difficult to understand at first but it's fun to play

Nice gameplay, works really well with the 10 seconds. Played it longer than expected. Controls needed some getting used to, but felt intuitive by the end. Nicely made, especially for a first gamejam.

Really nice game! I loved the concept and your take on the theme. It was also pretty cool that each level had a different music. The controls were a bit weird - perhaps it would've worked better with the mouse? - but other than that, great entry!

Cool stuff! Really enjoyed the frantic multitasking. It would be nice if there was some way of dealing with projectiles once they'd been fired, maybe making the knight able to parry with their attacks would work? That way you still need to swap the lanes around to do it.

Sleeper hit - controls might need fiddling. Great job.

@matt-barnfield love that idea! Definitely something I'd want to implement if I find time to improve on this game after voting ends.

Cute design and good use of the prompt. Maybe it is just me, but I did have a hard time remember what buttons to use to switch who where, I found myself frantically clicking until I got characters where I wanted them. Having a shield or some way to deal with the projectiles would be good next step.

Cute characters. Gameplay is quite unique, but it's a bit too convoluted for me.
