Oasis Escape by Zerbu
There seems to be an issue with the embed. I don't know if it's a site bug or if I just messed something up, but for now, you can use the itch.io link: https://zerbu.itch.io/oasis-escape
Get to the end of the level and escape the Oasis! A new enemy spawns every 10 seconds, shooting projectiles at you. Get out as quick as possible to avoid being swarmed!
To be honest, the game isn't that great. This is my first time completing a Game Jam, and was basically a practice attempt. Most of the art is extremely basic, the level is generic and simple, and the game can be completed in less than 50 seconds (although, I imagine it will take a bit longer for those who don't know the optimal way to move).
Despite the game not being good, I'm at least proud to say I was able to complete a Ludum Dare. Trying to make a game with such a strict deadline has taught me a lot, and given me plenty of code, ideas and knowledge I can salvage for future projects.
As I didn't create the audio, I have opted out of the Audio category accordingly.

Looking at the game in retrospect, @eerongal and @rinkuji right about the camera issue. I guess this is the kind of thing that happens when you've been developing a game for so long with no testers, you just get used to the "extreme" stuff with nobody to point it out.
The game resembling a Flash game is semi-intentional: I intend for my personal style to be a kind of modernized Flash look (though in this case, I failed on the "modernized" part).
The trick to getting past the enemies is to position yourself when the timer runs out where they spawn in a position where they can't get you as easily. I know it's not the best system, it's just one of those "first time" things.
For the record, I don't think that the camera makes the game unplayable. The game feels a little wonky in general, but the camera is only part of that problem - you'll learn how to make player controls "feel" better as time goes on. For now, celebrate your success of making a game (and actually playing creatively with the theme a little, which wasn't easy this time)!
I almost made it to the end :)
Congrats on your first game!
I have a trackpad and the mouse sensibility is making me nauseous!
The nice music made me play several times
By the way, will we get a face reveal of the alien?
A cool addition would be to have a timer to see how fast we complete the game, to bring some replayability :D
The controls are intuitive. I could walk and jump without looking at somekind of 'how to play'. I like that. The mouse though, it is very sensitive and almost unusable for me. The jumping feels a bit floaty.
Do you have any tips on how to play so I can at least survive more than 30 seconds? I would love to see what the platforming is like.
Congratz on your first entry! I hope you had lots of fun
@shrillwhip I'll keep your feedback in mind when making future games! As for a face reveal, the alien was cobbled together really quickly so I haven't really decided what their face will look like, but maybe in a future game I'll create an alien character based on them :)
@aderpychickenstudios Thanks! Coyote time is something I'll consider for future games!
@ubershmekel Sorry about the hitbox issue, I'll take that into consideration the next time I code projectiles in a game.
@wouter52 If you're still interested in trying to complete it, a tip is to position yourself when the timer reaches 0 so that enemies spawn in a place that's not too intrusive.
As others have mentioned, the mouse sensitivity made this game hard to play. Sadly, I am not a good enough gamer to make it past the first 2 enemies. I'm going to have my husband play this one, as I'm sure he could make it further than I did.
From my perspective, I felt like I had a huge hitbox or perhaps it was just a camera perspective thing, but sometimes it looked like I had managed to sneak past a projectile, only to die. Death message was cute though - made me feel better about dying lol.
The flat graphics give a unique feel, and is probably a smart compromise when you have limited time.
