Sprint10 by Ben Parisi
My first Compo Entry! :)
Get to the exit. Levels are ten seconds long. Waddaya want from me? It's a video game ain't it?
POST RELEASE PATCH NOTES: You no longer restart the game after dying three times. You now have unlimited lives.
It's funny how designers become nose blind to how difficult their game is. In the hour before I released, I worried that I did not have enough content, so I added in the lives feature to sort of "stretch out" the gameplay. This was clearly a mistake. Nobody can beat the game now. I want people to be able to experience the later levels.

The graphics were super cool, but there were points when it was hard to see where I was going.
I don't think the lives thing added any stakes for a game like this; it was tedious to go back and restart the 'tutorial' levels and I would have tried that craggy wall 100 times before I got it.
Otherwise great first entry!
Controls were fast, so made it hard sometimes to hit the finish line.
Got stuck on the vertical stair case, but seems really fun!
More nitpicks because this game is great: After I grab a checkpoint, I'd like the game to remember that I'm holding down forward without having to repress it.
I really liked the game, very creative, it matched the theme a lot. So far this is the best I've played so far I hope you win!
Although the keyboard control is not smooth enough, you can't rush all the way to the end, you need to control the speed, which makes it a little awkward, but it is still a good game. Good work!
I like that you show how much time you had left after reaching a check point.
A tiny bit of time after falling off a platform that still lets you jump would be nice.
The gameplay was tight and fun. The 10 second levels were a great idea, and keeping it as one consecutive world worked really well.
Removing the lives was a good idea, by the way. I found the platforming quite challenging (but enjoyable)! And I think having to restart would have been frustrating.
Oh, It might be worth mentioning that I couldn't get the game to run on firefox. It was just stuck on the unity loading screen forever. It worked well on chrome though
- Volume envelope on the jumping sound effect in particular needs to come way down. Had to turn the volume low enough that I wasn't able to enjoy the music while playing. Sad.
- I like the view distortion, but it really gets in the way of the horizontal and vertical portions of the game. If you weren't already considering it, maybe a small delay so it doesn't kick in on the sections where you have to tap forward briefly?
- Pretty sure I was running on air (above the platforms) at the end of the game. Not sure if intentional.
Good job.
Everything from the level design, to the breaking glass sound effect, to the praise the sun death animation is excellent.
Also, I definitely appreciate the checkpoint system since having to restart from the beginning on each death would have made this impossible to play.
Sometimes it's a bit hard to see where the player should go, especially when the player is going left or right. This seems to be due to a combination of the camera positioning and the platforms not being visually distinct.
