FF:10 by dysleixc

[raw]
made by dysleixc for Ludum Dare 51 (COMPO)

FF10 is a game where you need to defend THE CORE. No matter how much you hate it. F11.png

Game

This was my first game jam ever. I knew I could easily overestimate my abilities so I decided to make a puzzleish game which wouldn't be too difficult to manage. Also, code-wise this was my attempt to implement most of the game based on Mediator pattern. Hope you enjoy playing this game as much as I enjoyed making it.

Goal

Every 10 seconds a new beam will turn on. The goal of the game is to go through all 10 beams and protect the core.

Tools

  • Game: Unity3D
  • Graphics: Paint .NET
  • Music: Garage Band (main theme) + chipsounds VST (effects)

No idea why LD embedded doesn't work

UPD: Nevermind, figured it out the last minute

Love the tilted camera angle!

Fun concept, but it feels a bit clunky to turn to catch the incoming .. enemies?

Congratulations on your first entry.
This feels way more polished than many of the first entries I have came across.

Keep it up, it was fun to play. Sadly LD embedded kind of cuts the size and displays the game with a "scroll-view".

Whoa, thats a really good surprise. I like the concept, very simple and fun. I think the rotation is still a bit clunky as well, and I think it gets too hard too fast, but maybe that's just me. Graphics are pretty good as well!

Congrats on the first submission :)

Nothing much to say since it is a simple idea. Hope to see you in the next one :)

Pressing mouse on the title screen to start was not so intuitive.
Also the mouse didn't work in the game .. that is a confusing control scheme.

Instructions/timer rotate as well, which is a bit difficult to follow.

I thought the shields were bad due to the color.

Enemy spawning needs a radar or it shouldn't go as fast.

I like how the graphics and style staid uniform.
I like the audio.

Fun game, but the enemies can appear without you having the time to adjust your rotation to block it. Using the a and d keys didn't feel very good to use, as I had to remember what to press to go which direction (if I look at the bottom of the circle and press a, it goes left, if I look at the top, it goes right).

Very fun, but too hard. It will be better to make your mechanics more forgivable.

This has a really high level of polish, I'm impressed it's your first game jam! I like that the gameplay is simple to understand but has room for different strategies and how the UI is incorporated into the graphics. Well done on your first jam!

I really love the presentation so much. Pulling the camera back a few would really help the gaem feel less...unstoppable. Such a wonderful simple idea and such a great visual.

There is two kinds of players, the one that plays for relaxation and the ones that like their blood to boil. This game is for the latter ones. This is an extreme rush. Thanks for making it and the adrenaline you have given me =)

My primitive human mind can only comprehend about half of what The Core says, yet I can tell that it's a jerk and I don't want to defend it. Yet I feel a strange compulsion to keep protecting it.

Loved this entry - simple concept, but very well executed. Great animation and sound. There's enough strategy to keep it interesting - trying to minimise wide unprotected areas, and trying to collide with small sections. I didn't mind the tough difficulty, as it's very quick to get into the next game. Nice work.

Absolutely brilliant game, very complete in concept and execution. I feel like with some better audio and one or two of the graphics made more consistent (the arrows feel a little out of place with how polished and clean everything else it) it would just feel like a super hexagon style game simple but very complete game.

A lot harder than you expect.. My brain just wouldn't accept the direction of the spin, kept spinning it the wrong way? Really like the look and feel of the game.
Nice job

That was frustrating and difficult and fun. Thought the concept was very well executed. I did swear at it when I read "Hard Mode: On". :)

This was an intriguing entry, I could see this with a bit more content to expand on the story perhaps? But the little I played was a nice experience. Just the enemy shape not matching their collision detection was a bit confusing. Nice work though!

The camera field of view could be a bit larger in order to be able to plan your moves ahead of time, and properly avoid getting the "core" hit by enemies. The game is quite unforgiving, and doesn't tell the player how to play; even though the mechanics and inputs are quite simple, it does take a bit of figuring out, and is difficult to play well - not necessarily a bad thing!

Great work getting this done during Compo! Nice visual effects and soundtrack, and the orbiting blocks idea is quite fun.
