Beautiful art and very creative game idea, little too hard for me and I got stuck a few checkpoints after you get the wings. The timings are really tight but I enjoyed it

Really great game. Beautiful art and very clever design. It's a real shame it crashes about every 9 seconds

Hope you'll fix the bugs soon !
Joke aside, it's really a clever and pleasant game. A good surprise actually.

Man the pixel art here is just next level. I love the white outline. I did have the game crash a little too much for me to really get a feel for it, but the fundamentals seem really solid.

I always love it when someone makes a good platformer. Very well designed level and mechanics, not too easy but not frustratingly hard either. Good job!

Simple concept executed really well! Lovely art and music with some great little problem solving. I do wish you could restart without a crash though!

Really interesting idea, and well-polished execution. I think a few things held it back for me, in particular the very tight timing of every checkpoint, and the lack of ability to retry without dying. The 10 second timing's pretty difficult to work under for this kind of game, and you did a pretty decent job within the window! Just a little more friendliness toward the player would be much appreciated! Really fun direction with the art - and a fitting end to the game!

Great job! A real fun experience, maybe a bit too hard/frustrating for less experimented gamers, but besides that it's very good on every aspects! It's the first one I try and it already sets the bar very high... Congrats!

this has to be my favorite entry so far, it's really creative a well made. I can feel the adrenaline rush as I run from one save to another thinking about the most optimal path to take, the whole story is also amazing! the idea of traveling all that distance just to go back to the very beginning by carefully picking safe spots makes this game even better. really love the idea! good work guys.

What a cool idea! I think if restarts were just slightly less painful, and maybe there was a timer or some other indicator, it would be perfect!

Awesome entry!

You can tell that so much love went into the details on this one. The pixel art is clean and full of character. I particularly liked the fact that the wings change direction when you've used your double-jump and the fact the dragon breathes!

The gimmick of the game crashing is fun and flavorful. The little "save icon" was a great way to work it in, and you really went all-in with the presentation ("don't turn the console off" for a web game).

A couple very small spots that felt less-than-perfect:
- As others have said, it would be nice if you could reset before the ten seconds. A few times I messed up and just had to wait it out.
- The platforming felt a little bit slow at times, despite you being forced to move really quick to get to the next checkpoint. In particular it felt like the character took a while to fall, which slowed things down when climbing "ladders" of stacked platforms.
- It was a little odd that the game crashed when you hit enemies as well. At first I didn't realize what was causing it and thought the timing was changing.

Music was well-done and awesome to have different tracks for the title and several different areas.

I can't get over how funny it is to just shoot a dragon with a gun.

Great entry. I added the main character to the fan art compilation on [my profile](https://ldjam.com/users/jeremy-ryan/).

This is my favorite game in the jam so far! The pixel art is lovely, and the game crash mechanic is so cool! The way it turns a metroidvania into a speedrunning game where you have to memorize each path is really fun. Only small comment is I wish the reset button worked before the game crashes so I could reset early each time I messed up a route or jump, but super impressive overall! Love the music too :)

The pixel art is so clean and polished! It's a clever use of the theme and it feels like you could expand upon this to make a longer game. Def, one of my favorite games so far!

Aaah it's a tough one, because I love the idea, the visuals, the fact it's a small metroidvania but unfortunately it became too frustrating for me. Just QOL things that would make it more enjoyable (to my point of view of course). Sometimes it's really so so close and not triggering the checkpoints, it felt tedious to hit the restart button everytime and how did I wish I was able to restart on demand when I knew I failed.
But this still got me for a while trying to beat it, and I liked the sense of discovery/surprises

Not gonna lie, it took me quitting itch.io and rereading this page before I got what was happening ^^
Very nice concept and execution, some timing where maybe a bit tight and required too much precision on what to do to reach the next checkpoint but it was still beatable.
Also not sure what I expected but the ending sure got me !

Oh wow! I wish I thought of this. Really nice job making a creative game with simple gameplay that fits the theme so well. It really has the player make every second count before they get to a save spot. Haha, great work! Love how it looks too.

This is a very good and polished game and it has the potential to be a good game, level design works great. The quitting and restarting thing is a little annoying, maybe it can be changed into something more enjoyable. Overall, a perfect game for a Game jam.

Man at first I thought this was just a troll game and almost didn't play further, glad I explored further left! This definitely has that ragey quality of "I want to be the guy"-esque games, but was still fun, great job!

Too bad the game crashed multiple times for me. You should have correct those before publishing it. This is literally unplayable !

One of my favorites on LD 51. Simply fantastic. All!
Color palette, pixel art, music, Level design, humor....
ALL!

The final TURN-OFF is hilarious! I LOVE IT!!!

I want to make games like this when I grow up.

Congratulations and thank you very much for the experience.

PS: Seriously, some people thought he played it really crashed?!?! :O

Lovely little platformer, I would suggest buffering the jump input a little bit to allow you to press jump just before you hit the ground and have the player jump when they land. I kept mistiming jumps a little early because of miscalculating the falling trajectory and this would have helped a little. I'd also love if there was some audio or visual glitch that happened like a second or 2 before the error to really up the tension if you're cutting it close.

Really fun little roguelite, I enjoyed finding and applying the correct movement between checkpoints, really cool design.
My criticism would be that sometimes I know I'm not going to make it to the checkpoint after turning the wrong way or not jumping in time so it was a bit frustrating waiting for the 10 seconds to be over so you could restart, if the restart would work all the time I think it would make my experience more enjoyable and the game flow a bit better.
Overall a really great entry!

Haha, quite a clever idea! I bit hard for my meager platforming skills, but very well done in all respects and definitely one of the most innovative ones!

Fun game and quite difficult. Only gripe is that the 10 second interval doesn't reset while saving, but other than that it's pretty great! Reminded me of Minit.

11. Oct 2022 · 03:47 UTC
@fedir @projectcolorball It's actually my interpretation of the theme. I could have probably communicated it just a little better, but the game will "crash" every 10 seconds. If you go left, you can find a save point, and then when it "crashes" you restart from the last save spot. The game's completable, I designed it to be playable in just those 10 second increments.

couldn't get past the point that @retrowillgames links above, tried for a good while until the frustration overcame. Neat concept, like a 10s take on minit, cute art, nice soundtrack but argh the frustration. Good job.

very unique mechanic, actually the mechanic itself may not be unique but the way it's represented is very unique. The error popping up and briefly going back to menu and hearing the menu theme before loading to the last checkpoint really feels like what happened was a real crash and a full restart (even tho it's not)

Controls are fluid and it feels good move around. having to go through checkpoints within 10 seconds and being able to go back and save at previous checkpoints really turns what could be a boring platforming section into an interesting puzzle.

The biggest problem I had was that you cannot reset unless there is a "crash". If you mess up crucial jump and don't have enough time to retry you have to wait the rest of the timer till you can restart. This doesn't seem like a big problem at first but gets very annoying over time.

I like the sprite work, music and sound effects are also on point.

Very good entry overall, couldn't finish the entire thing tho, sorry :[

Really excellent work on the timings between checkpoints, some were a little tight - but managing to space them so consistently is impressive! Took me a minute to realise that checkpoints existed, and that it wasn't a total gimmick game though. Platforming felt great, and the visuals and audio were nice and polished. Only thing I would suggest is maybe allowing shift to force a restart, even if the game hasn't "crashed" - as there were a few times I knew I'd messed up and wouldn't make it to the next checkpoint, and just had to wait it out!

I'm not sure why, but the game kept crashing on my computer. I have a Win98SE running on a Pentium 120 with 16mb and never had any issue with any other games so far. I tried blowing into the floppy disk without much success, so I guess I'm gonna request ask for a refund or something. Too bad, because the game really felt amazing and I'm pretty sure I was very close to the ending, but it crashed right before getting to the save checkpoint and I basically table flipped at that point. Should I install the Service pack 1?
