Tiny Time Jockey (Future) by other thinking

[raw]
made by other thinking for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

Tiny Club Cover.png

YOU WERE INVITED TO PLAY IN THE SMALLEST CLUB IN THE UNIVERSE!!!

Tiny Club is an iconic venue situated in the West County regional space station. Due to its size, only one person at a time is allowed, and only for ten second.

DJs must make sure to read their dancer and play appropriate music!

You are DJ TTKN. You traveled for 5 days to reach the station. One problem, you were so tired when you packed that you forgot to bring your records! Luckily, there was a pawn shop in the station, and you managed to purchase a collection of records that was laying around.

PS: Due to the presence of a massive object orbiting around the station, duration of seconds might slightly differ from Earth.

So I was initially planning on going away in the countryside, away from the computer, but my friend asked me if I wanted to team up for Ludum Dare this weekend.
JB had never done a game jam nor used Unity before and I had made a few game jams but only as a musician/sound designer.

I since learned the basics of game development, and this was my first jam with a more technical and game-oriented role.
I was eager to tackle the challenge, and JB was also keen to try and have a clever Wwise based sound engine.

In the end the game has its flaws at the moment, but it's still kinda fun to use, plus I am overall very happy and surprised we managed to have a full game system running by the deadline!!

TOOLS WE USED: - Unity with Playmaker handling most of the programming and logic - Wwise for audio implementation - Ableton for creating the music (some originals, and cuts from our own projects as well) - Photoshop for dirty editing of the pictures generated by DALL.E

The time between the dancers seems to be too short for me (I know that it was enforced by the theme). My first run was a disaster haha. But really like the concept and the mood of the game.

It's a pretty cool idea! It's hard to figure it out in time, but the clues are fun. There's some great tunes in there too. Good work

The game is really hard because the time is so short but I really like the concept you came up with. The clues to the correct song are fun. Controls are a little awkward. I wish every thing was mouse or everything was key presses. Good job.

A bit limited by the theme because of how much there is to read, but I like the concept! Deciphering their messages at rapid speed and then getting it right is very rewarding. Perhaps there should be an intro screen where all your records can be viewed, before the night begins, to take away from the initial time crunch?

The music is stellar, and the dancers all look like swell ladies and gentlemen. Though I encountered a situation where my mouse got stuck in the bottom left corner of the screen, making navigation a bit awkward.

Great work overall!

The premise of the tiny club is amazing, well done! It took a second or two to decipher what they meant, but it worked out in the end 😅

Nicely Done Bro. really nice concept and use of the 10 second theme. Would love to see this game developed further and released in a larger scale. Please do check out my submission as well.

@enjl : Thanks a lot for your feedbacks. We didn't think about "checking" the record before starting but that's a lovely idea thanks. It would suit well the story where your bought the record before starting, so you should have been able to check it.

10 secondes is a bit short (and in the game 1 second is longer than a real second..) as a lot of people said, and they are all right (thx to them for the feedbacks tho).

And yes we didn't manage to set the cursor in the center of the screen in Unity that's an issue we need to fix.

Loved the "new dancer" voiceline, very catchy. I know I disappointed many guests, but the jams were grooving.

Super interesting and quirky. Love your style. The bonus points for matching BPM is a great idea. Awesome game!

Challenging little game. I was able to figure out most of the hints, though the controls take a little getting used to. The controls are a little inconsistent, such as having to use the keyboard to flip through records and select it, while most of the other controls are mouse, but the volume slider needs a right click to switch to pan right. Lots of catchy and varied tracks for being made in such a short time!
