One Minute Away by Srynetix

made by Srynetix for Ludum Dare 51 (COMPO)

Welcome on my 5th Ludum Dare Compo entry!

Man, this theme was HARD. Not just hard but really HARD.
I brainstormed during hours finding a pitch fitting for this theme, so there you go (narrator voice activated):

Time is collapsing. You, the hero of this story, have to once again save the world by fighting the Time itself, avoiding traps and getting deeper and deeper.

Here's what the Time will do to block you: - every 10 seconds, you will be weaker, slower - every 10 seconds, you will receive a special effect in your face - but fortunately for you, if you break the time locks, you will take precious seconds from the Time itself.

If you are too slow to finish the level, consider yourself frozen until the end of the ages :hourglass:.

Make sure to finish all the levels, and let me know if you enjoyed the game .
...ah and put your headphones on, make sure you play with sound :notes:!

Software used: - Godot Engine 3.5.1 with my sxgd plugin collection, - Pixel Studio, - Krita, - FL Studio

Assets used: - The Jost* font

Good luck, and have fun!

Nice game!
I loved the funny narration, and the sound. The mechanics were very good and intuitive, but still challenging. The graphics was just so nice.

Nice game with good fit for the theme. Controls felt little "sticky" but overall nice. With rotating levels I would assumed that gravity would also change but it did not. That felt odd.

@termight Thanks! :smile:
@denvil Thanks! Yep, all of the effects are only "visual" to play with your mind, but it could have been nice to also rotate the gravity.

Wow! Very nice visual effects. Arts are ok. Music is good. Love the humour. As mentionned above, I would have liked controls a bit smoother, especially for this kind of challenging games. The text in the 3 or 4 first levels took too much time to appear and was a bit "out of the way". I rushed and completely missed it! Loved it anyway ;)

Loved it. The music was very good, and I loved the wrapping mechanic being useful as part of the puzzle solving. The last level was very difficult until I realized the player has a double jump.

Awesome vibe, special effects, and music. The screen rotating was especially cool, but did make the controls a bit finicky. It wasn't super clear that the special effects and weakening was related to a 10 second timer though. In addition, the platforming itself was okay but could be improved.

Agreed with ha1fbit, it wasn't clear what the special power were, if they were random and when they were activated. I had some levels where I could jump infinitely and restart the level and couldn't do that, and was left confused not knowing how to finish the level.

I also once got stuck in the floor: I was near the top of the level and wanted to try to jump on the top tiles to cross the level laterally, but that flip me at the bottom of the level and than quickly at the top and I was stuck in the ground.

The text at the top right was hard to read for me (I was paying attention to other things at the center of the screen).

I had to redo the last level a bunch of time because the only solution I found was to try to fall over the time thing and than loop several time by falling down and hope to have enough time to punch the thing. Wasn't really a good experience. Also I didn't find a button to restart the level, but several time I messed up and had to wait for the thing to restart because I knew I wasn't going to make it.

It's a nice entry. I like the idea of the levels being some kind of puzzles you need to solve. The platforming is a bit awkward, though. And when the level rotates it is really hard to wrap around your head. It is also quite unclear what the special effects are and that they are somewhat related to the 10 seconds timer.

Quite difficult to play. Especially when the level starts spinning. But the idea is good

Really nice game and explanation about your design process. I also like brainstorming a lot about a theme :-) Regarding me, I even started another game before switching to the one I've actually published! I spend more than a day on it ah ah.
Anyway congratulations to you for that piece! Keep up the good work.

Great game. The background ticking clock in the background and the slowing down as time progressed really fitted well. I noticed the one special effect which was the screen rotating. My biggest frustration was the keyboard layout, I couldn't get jump and punch to feel nice together. But i did finish the game so only a minor frustration.
