How to play

Control a red spaceship as you navigate through ever thickening asteroid fields (WASD). Every 10 seconds you will travel one kilometer further into the asteroid field (and the difficult will increase by 1 asteroid).

As a last resort you can fire a laser at an incoming asteroid in an attempt to break it apart (SPACE). Be careful though! Shooting an asteroid will create even more debris.

What is this?

Hello! This is my submission to Ludum Dare 51 with the theme "Every 10 seconds". I created this game with Zig and Raylib using emscripten to compile to web assembly. I had no experience working with any of these technologies before the jam and so I spent the overwhelming majority of my time getting anything to compile, and the last few hours actually making a game. This is what I had planned however, and I'm really happy that I managed to get it working in the end.

Good job, actually - unlike majority of games - we can play in browser and the game works good. Congrats for that ! The stars background is actually quite cool at the begining, the sort of warping effect. Not sure about the projectile going in diagonal I don't know if it's on purpose !

I appreciate the progression of difficulty, it's well designed and the game didn't get insanely difficult too quickly

Simple gameplay loop with a pretty nice difficulty curve.

My only major complaint is that the collision boxes seem a bit oversized; I occasionally take a hit I thought I dodged.

Simple, but what is here is excellent. I adore that the consequence for shooting is to create annoying obstacles for your future self. That mixed with the natural increase of 1 asteroid per km makes for a good difficulty pacing. There's a bunch of situations where I wouldn't have died had i shot an asteroid, but I didn't consider it mandatory fast enough. I like that because shooting is a tool you should use, although it seems like a tool to avoid at all cost.

I thought the trajectories of the incoming asteroids was done well. I like how there's varying angles and speeds. This game does a good job of not making the asteroids feel incredibly boring.

The bug where a shot made while you are moving upwards moves up {and same with down} is pretty funny. Honestly this could be a sweet mechanic in a different game, since there could be an interesting skill to aiming those shots. Obviously out of place here.

Like others have said, the pacing felt great. I like how there's a bit of strategy involved deciding when to shoot

Works well in Linux but I did not get sound, is that a bug? The basic game is there, congrats for getting the technology working! It is very hard to hit the asteroids. I suggest making them slower and the bullets faster.
