Timed Well by Budda

[raw]
made by Budda for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

This is a quick and super unpolished platformer for "Every 10 Seconds" where the only controls that you always have access to are left and right movement (with arrow keys or A/D).

All other movement abilities are tied to the 10 second timeline at the top and trigger at their relative time. Starting from the second level you'll get to edit your action timeline and start adding new abilities to help you finish the level faster.

I felt it was a cool spin on a platforming mechanic, so I'm leaving it at this stage as a neat proof of concept. Enjoy.

I look forward to seeing the fastest end times :).

Cool puzzle-platformer! My only point of criticism is that it's a little annoying that you can't see the whole level at the start to plan out your jumps and dashes.

Awesome idea! One thing I particularly like is that even if you make a bad design, you can still pass the level by constantly moving and waiting(BIG JUMP is the king lol). Editing the timeline is a little annoying.

Your game makes a clever use of the theme, but also highlights why the theme is a bad one. It forces devs to add some kind of delay or loop that just isn't natural for a platformer game. I thought your idea was really interesting though. My suggestion would be that multiple things happen each 10 seconds. For example, every 10 seconds you jump, and at a different interval, you dash. Maybe mix in a few different variations of each. Has potential!

Unique take on the theme. I enjoyed to experiment with different combinations of the actions. Very cool! :)

Cool mechanic, but the collision of the player felt too big and unforgiving.

Well done!

Loved the idea, fits perfectly with the theme! (But you can just abuse the repeating timeline 🌚)

I like the idea, but requires some polish. Has a lot of potential, though! Good job!

Quite unique approach for the theme. Could be good if there's a way to see things around the map, so the player can plan for the action more strategically. Other than that, well done!

I feel my individual level times were super fast. Got all but 1 on the first loop, with being able to hold right most of the time. But the game ticks up even when you're experimenting, so my final score was a 4:58:16, with most levels being completed in 5-15 seconds. Fun game! A couple minor gripes with bouncing when you hit the ground stopping you from being able to jump, and some weird heights being really tricky to jump over, but I really liked the submission!

Obviously it lacks polish, but the idea is great, cool prototype.
