Run, Slime, Run ! by Dahut

[raw]
made by Dahut for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

icon.png

You are a slime, and you must run.

The only problem : you only have 10 seconds to live.

Reach the spawners so that your clones can continue where you could not.

And don't hesitate to use your corpses to reach new heights !

This is our first Ludum Dare entry, and our first time working in a team !

Although @dahut had already participated in a game jame once before

Had some good fun, done it in 2m50 ! Let's go for the speedruns guys !
Good concept and graphics, loving the contrast between the death mood and the nice and cute atmosphere, really making it cozy of some sort.
Only little point for me would that some jumps were a bit too pixel perfect for me, maybe the metrics of the jump are a bit too tied to the grid.
But otherwise a solid entry, keep it up guys

Press space to die haha, love that. Art was great alongside the vibe, really loved the parallax background and the simple game mechanic done well. Very polished and a great use of the theme! Love me a good platformer too :)

This game is super cool! Using death as a resource is an interesting mechanic, and it balances dying for bounces and keeping deaths minimal. Ten seconds is quite a long timer, since the area of platforming between never reached 10 seconds for me. Anyways, great game!

Finished in 3'! Fun little game, very nice work on the animations and the overall level design, I felt that a lot of work went into it working properly!

Okay! I've managed to beat the game in around 3:40 (minutes ofc haha)

Pros:

- I adore the color scheme used, very pleasant to the eye
- Good level design with a nice mechanic of jumping
- Also liked diffent tiles for levels (dungeon vs forest)
- Nice transitions between puzzles
- The chivarly-style music fits this game in a way I was not expecting it
- The ending caught me by surprise  :musical_note:

Cons:

- Wish there was more variety of puzzles except jump / spikes
- Speaking of spikes, I found their trigger points to be a touch too sensitive, but It may just be me
- I had to get a brief idea of understanding every 10 seconds here, so I kinda consider putting it there

#### A great job nonetheless and congrats on the first Jam Game! :muscle:

_ I strive to leave a detailed feedback which takes time... if you liked it, please consider giving a feedback back  _

@olddog Hi, thanks for the comment ! Here's a hint to get unstuck : jumping on your _slime's_ corpses makes you jump higher :)

Nice game. This review was made on top of slime corpses :). Quite good controls and graphics were good. Maybe add some kind of sound cue how much time you have left (the long section without any safe spots)

Cute game and in my opinion the perfect length for a jam game! I love the mechanic of using your own corpses to jump higher, and the audio/visuals were really good as well. I see some speedrunning potential with this idea! I managed to get 1:05 on my 3rd attempt.

Best parts:
The color scheme. Props to y'all for making it both gorgeous and colorblind friendly BTW.
Realizing I could use my corpse to block the spikes. No idea if that's intentional, but PLEASE keep it.

@confusedsoph Yes, blocking the spikes with your corpses is absolutely intentional  !

That slime's adorable!
Solid entry, felt polished.
Only real complaint was there was a section in the middle of 3-4 spawners that felt like it didn't require me to do anything except run right and occasionally jump, that I made with like... ~6 seconds left on the timer each time? Felt out of place with the rest of the puzzles around them.

A really interesting & unique take on the theme, loved it! Sometimes it's not clear whether you're standing on the corpse or not, i.e. whether you'll get the jumping boost, - maybe a visual indicator would help. The music felt just a little bit off, I'd expect it to feature in some fantasy-themed game and not a slime game, but maybe it's just me. Anyways, great job!

Great idea and executed very well, I like the corpse mechanic and I think given more time you could do a lot with it. Definitely one of my favorite games this jam, wish this can become a full-fledged game someday

Was I... kidnapped by aliens at the end ?

Very fun game. I loved the slime animation and the colors are great - a pleasure to look at. I left quite the trail of corpses at the very start, as the first thing I did was trying to jump a lot (with Space). And after accumulating quite a 'mound', I gazed to the left and saw the keybindings

Great work on the game. I have zero complaints!

@cinar Weird, the export was made in Godot with GLES2 specifically so it would use WebGL 1.0 (compatible with the most browsers).
Did you have an error in particular ?

Cool concept! I had fun playing through it. I like how you all managed to work with the theme in such a way that it wasn't just about waiting for the time to just expire, since your previous slimes affect your current slime. There was a sense or permanence to it. The art style was also very lovely. I also appreciated how spikes were also affected by previous slimes. It would be interesting to see how this idea could be expanded on with previous slimes affecting a whole multitude of other things.

Nice work on this game!

This game is so well made! The music and the graphics, including the animations, are all perfect. It's amazing you've made the map so complete. The effect of falling leaves is amazing! The level design and the concept are very interesting as well. The usage of corpses are definitely somehing new, which brings a lot of potential in the game play. Congrats!
