10 Seconds To Recycle by Wubbl

[raw]
made by Wubbl for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

Every 10 seconds tons of garbage is produced worldwide! Your job is to get the most recyclable material out of it. Be quick and avoid to collect the non-usable waste! Maybe you can beat the highscore?

This minimalistic game is our fourth gamejam project and we still need to learn a lot about game development, but we tried our best! (This time with only two team members.) We hope you like it as much as we do!

For the online leaderboard we are using dreamlo.com.2022-10-03 (3).png

I really like the gameplay, but why does it have to last only 10 seconds  I feel like the theme interpretation really makes this game worse as I would like to collect the shapes for a lot longer.

It also looks really nice, good job

I liked the idea of the game, and the game felt pretty polished, with nice and clean visuals, and a good audio design. But as others have pointed out, ten seconds feels a little short for this type of game, and to me it felt a little bit unintuitive what button to press to collect what type of trash. Might have been better replacing the shape with an arrow pointing to the direction you need to press. Still though, well done for being a game jam!

Simple and efficient. My best is 1700. How can the #1 score be 3000 ?

10 seconds indeed feel too little for this game, but after 3rd try i've forced my brain to work and was even able to catch some stuff :) like the idea!

The game is great! The concept is really simple but it works really well. Its pretty fun to keep trying to get higher and higher scores especially with the global leaderboard you implemented. The keybind switching is also a nice touch. As a counter to the other comments I feel like the length of the game is fine. If you continue it a bit more post jam though something to add could be adding more weight to the end of the timer instead of it being a sudden cut off (ex. the bars on the side could flash a color while nearing time up as one part of that)

Simple gameplay and graphics, but it does feel good.
It always let me want to play one more round.

Cool game, impressed by the global leaderboards! My Highscore is 2500 with the small exploit of just pressing all the buttons on each of the shapes which doesn't penalise you so it takes away the matching part of the game. So you probably shouldn't be able to do that. Overall very clean!

This turned out to be quite engaging. The graphics are minimalistic but pleasant. I loved the neon menu!

10-second runs seem to be very short - probably would be better with a "how far you can go" concept where clicking the white trash would take away lives or something like that. But I do understand - the theme has its requirements
It's quite easy to 'cheat' the game by just pressing all three applicable buttons at once.

Great jam job overall!

Thank you all for your feedback!

10 seconds are really short but we wanted to stay true to our concept :)
However, we thought about a "how far you can go" concept too. Together with multiple difficulty levels where you need to collect 1000/2000/3000 points per 10 seconds.

And we could improve our random object placement a bit. Btw, 3600 is max score with the current implementation and someone has 3500 already. Crazy :D

To me this game appeared a little buggy. After many runs I didn't find any score at the end. BUT! I managed to get to top 10 (so far) :)

Lovely game, although indeed the game feels like the game is hindered by the 10 second limit more than it gains. Love the vector art and the bloom as well. Quite impressive you were able to add a global leaderboard as well!

Cool idea, don't think it was a great implementation of the "Every 10 seconds" theme though.
Unless you were going for "Every 10 seconds you need to press replay"

I like the concept, but it might be better if each bit of garbage had the key that needed to be typed on it, instead of relying on player to memorize which key to press. Overall, though, good work!

Great idea! I didn't always see my score at the end. It would feel more like recycling if the graphics were things to recycle, but the audio was great.

I immersed myself in this game for 20-30 minutes

Having an online leaderboard is awesome!
I'm going to try using dreamlo in our games, thanks for the tip!

The visual part of the game is nice.

It seems like it would be great to use 4 different sounds :small_red_triangle: :white_circle: :black_medium_square: :x: for the 4 types of objects that are being collected.

I agree that this didn't fit well with the theme (in fact, the theme kind of made it worse), but other than that, it was absolutely amazing! I was immersed for so long, and the graphics were simple yet amazing. Amazing work!

Awesoem concept, and very fun. But the with the 10 second limit it would've been nice to restart levels quicker. Or have a not so sudden screenchange from gameplay to Score screen.
Otherwise very cool!

Really great concept and excellent execution!

Instead of the game ending after 10 seconds maybe the rules could change, mix up the right key for the shape or change the shapes every 10 seconds. Also, there's no punishment for pressing the wrong key on the shape so it's easy enough to do decently if you just aim and spam the three keys, maybe a loss of score if the wrong key is pressed?

Brilliant entry, well done.
