overbrewed_espresso.gif

  • Add as much ingredients you like
  • Your coffee will start preparing
  • When over, you can then use action key to add toppings (only in medium and hard modes)
  • Press action again to validate the coffee
  • You can then bring their coffees to your clients !

👨‍🏫 Tips

  • You can merge platters !
  • Green coffees are bad coffees, you can get rid of them by serving them. You won't get any points though.
  • The more coffees you serve, the better your score!

We hope you'll like the cozy mood and the coffees !

Love the concept. It's very solid, I had fun brewing and memorizing the different beverages. Although, having to press tab while using WASD seemed a bit awkward. These types of games tend to stress me out but I found this one quite relaxing.

I love the rain dripping down the windows! plus the ambient noise of it creates just such a nice mood. I'm glad you decided not to include timers for customers, or having them storm out (they didn't even get mad at me for giving the wrong drink. Just waited for the right one.) because that would have ruined the chill mood you created in this game. The art is great and the music/sfx all fit together really nicely. What a cozy entry! Great work.

@amberfall92 thank you very much for your kind comment ! It was indeed our intent to create a chill mood and to avoid creating too much stress with angry clients or wild timers like overcooked!

@chillertyp yeah sorry, as we said in the disclaimer part, we used Godot 4 beta to make our game and the export only works on chrome (and derived) browsers :/

This games create, definitely would be better with multiple people! Still fun alone though, a fast paced yet relaxing environment :)

Nice. Very relaxing. I like the art style. The only thing I would change is the Tab key (I think E or Space would be better)

Loved the relaxing vibes from the soundtrack and the gameplay was fun. Can see this being even better if a full version gets made. Great work!

Both tense AND relaxing, found myself being very quickly overwhelmed! Cute idea adding in local multiplayer, appreciated seeing that. Maximum points for mood, you got the atmosphere down perfectly

I am in love with the music! Thank you for sharing, ohlala <3 Exactly the kind of autumn chill vibes I am looking for. Hygge, like they say in Danemark, I might add.

Easy to pick up, hard to master. After a couple runs, I am now able to memorise the recipes and only mess up every 1 out of 5 orders! I don't even want to imagine the hard mode ahah. Difficulty number 2 is enough for me - and the simple fact you actually have multiplayer and several difficulties is astonishing.

Just the right amount of everything!

This game reminds me of Dash-style casual games that were popular around 2004.

The basic game idea is good, but the input method needs some improvement.

When making coffee or serving ready-made coffee, it is difficult to know how to cancel if an incorrect input is made.
And since there seem to be too many unnecessary inputs such as tabs, it might be good to think about a way to make them less input.

Also, wouldn't it be better if you could keep track of the game status at a glance by continuously displaying the order status of the seated customer?

@benthetwoofus I totally agree that the input system need improvement, especially for the levels above easy where you need two series of input to make a coffee (with milk and cream). We thought a bit about it but could'nt find a really satisfying way of making this.

For the orders...well the game was mostly made for two players, and we had this idea that it could be fun for one players to take the orders, and for the other to prepare coffee, that's why me made them appear only when getting near them. But maybe we could change that behaviour when playing solo, or maybe hiding them by default, and then when the player get near the customer, display the order and never make it disapear again.

Anyway, thanks for your review ! Helps :)

Loved the game, so relaxing, but stressful at the same time.

At first I was a bit confused with the inputs, by my own fault as I kind of skipped reading the controls. I expected the usual WASD and E/SPACE to interact, not tab. I also never found a way to cancel orders if I pressed wrong (if there was one). Other than that, I really enjoyed it, amazing work!

played it in 2-player mode. Great vibe, it takes a bit to get used to it and I wish there was a progression in there (earn money to get upgrades like milk). Nice entry!

@vetche-studio Thanks. For the controls we choose to make the game playable with 2 players on the keyboard, that's why it's not space for the action. We should have changed the controls when there's only 1 keyboard player but didn't have the time. We can't cancel order, the order is lost (that's wanted) but there's no feedback.

@substain Did you see there are 3 levels of difficulty (with milk and cream)? Earn money to get upgrade was out of the scope.

@schadocalex yes, we've tried the first and second one. Its totally fine that you stayed within that scope :) I suggested it because I felt a slow increase in recipes would be easier to handle.

Overcooked but for coffee. Very nicely done, impressive for a game jam timeframe.

Pros:
-really nice music, and wonderful rain effects!
-amazing graphics with great detail
-Easy to understand
-Difficulty settings!

Cons:
-I didn't really like the end, it was too sudden and didn't really fit with the theme of the game.

Personal opinion
-I didn't like the score mechanic. The game has wonderful artwork and I don't think you want to force players to try and score the best score. I would suggest to make it more of a story based game in order for players to feel more inside the game. That's pretty subjective tho.
schadocalex
10. Oct 2022 · 12:16 UTC
@greenphox You're 100% right. The "end" mechanic was added at the very end (that's why it does not fit well the rest) and we want to make a chill mode without score, with larger opening hours, with all coffees, less clients and some croissants to serve.

The game has a wonderful atmosphere! The game idea is a classic, but it is implemented so wonderfully: Graphic and music work perfectly together just the stressful gameplay contradicts this slightly. But if you polish the gameplay a little more, I could imagine it being a really great game. Very well done!
PS: I'm also happy to see others liking Godot too!

Rain on the windows, haven't seen that before. A very nice effect!

Compared to the other contemporaries like Overcooked and PlateUp, this game had more of an emphasis on carrying the tray around. I thought that was a very nice twist to the formula, because now you were thinking about optimizing your routes and making sure you could remember who had what. I liked that the cooking portion (or cleaning up messes for that matter) took a backseat so that Overbrewed could have it's own feel for the genre.

So to be efficient, this is a bit of a memorization game since AFAIK you couldn't easily tell which drink was which once it was placed somewhere. I would try to stack the counters a bit when I had breathing room, and try to remember which ones were which to add to my speed.

The later difficulties are definitely made for 2 people. I didn't have a partner to play with but I imagine it would've been fun to do, although it's unlikely much coordination would happen like the other games. That's because there's just so much to remember, it's best just winging most of it and doing your thing I assume.

A good take on a genre that still has a lot of room to explore. Every single one of them emphasizes hecticness and dashiness, so it's great to play one where I could just be happy serving customers :)

@urjarm thank you very much for the kind feedback :D and yeah #GodotTeam4Ever !

@peachtreeoath thank you for the great review, it's nice to have such a constructive feedback ! And yeah we tried to create a chill mood, while also trying to create an input mechanic that allowed to be quick by making coffees. The result is a bit of an hybrid monster, half peaceful and half scoring, which might be weird. But our main take was indeed to get rid of the downsides of overcooked (especially the timers and the dishes). We'll probably try to make a chill mode with less clients / minute to fit more with the ambiance now :)

I got 320 very nice job, I like coffee so it was the game for me xd. Wasn't able to test local multiplayer, but that is such a cool feature that you added especially for a game jam. The art was very good and UI was very interactive, great job!

Lovely game, with a very soothing background sound and music, definitely one of my favourite. I couldn't really understand the stopwatch though, it kept increasing in time (combo?). It would have also been nice to be able to carry more than 3 beverages for the big tables. I will try to play with someone else to test multiplayer mode ! Good job !
🎤 Tyrannas
18. Oct 2022 · 14:01 UTC
@lizzie-th thanks for the kind review :), the stopwatch is actually just time passing by haha, and yeah for the coffees more than 3 would indeed be nice but since we only had 3 keys available we didnt want to add more keys. Buuut it's true we could have put several coffees per key !

Wow, strong entry! Very impressive graphics. Very polished. I like the strategy of 4 machines but only 3 spots on the tray. Feels like I could spend a while mastering this.

Well done on a great jam entry, there is a lot here and really well polished. Worked great for me in Chrome. I didn't see an in-game guide on how to make the coffees, and am not much of a coffee drinker myself, so had to guess the recipes by trial and error! It was fun and I love that it's 2 player. Wonderful tribute to Overcooked. Great job!

@khadia maybe you had a bug but normally all the recipes are supposed to be writen on the bottom of your screen !
