QuickThink: Necromancer by Ganny

[raw]
made by Ganny for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

You are a necromancer wielding the power of the summoning spell book. Summon an army to defeat the human realm.

Animation3.gif

Summon by dragging the mouse cursor over the runes and get the sum of the values of the runes to add to the undead army strength. Make sure your undead army is stronger than the humans in order to proceed to the next level.

The simple math needs to be made quick since the timer will run out in 10s and then the humans will attack.

I must admit I was a bit on the fence, given that it is quick maths, and if there is one thing I am terrible at, it is quick math. However I actually enjoyed it a lot. The art is good, the simple idea works really well. The game knows when to establish new concepts well, i.e. it is nicely timed. Such as introducing multiplication and division appropriately. It is a nice idea, and well polished, good job!

A simple game, but a really fun one. I liked the addition of multiplication and division in later levels, though it only took a single lucky level to build up an army of over 5000 and completely steamroll the rest of the game (chaining together multiplications can get quite crazy).
On the side of execution the only criticism I'd have is that the game board doesn't scale with the book it's supposed to be on. As a result part of the board was on the stone tile background, which made it a little harder to see where you can and cannot connect.

The game gets more interesting as you play it, it has a strong and clever mechanics as well as beautiful visual art combined to make a great experience.
Also multiplication is OP.

Very interesting game

Graphics were nice and the music and sound effects matched the game very well.
Some operations were kinda hard to see and identify exactly what they were because they started to blend with the runes.

Wasn't very challenging but was a pretty fun experience.

now I feel insecure about my quick math skills  lovely entry, with a good amount of polish. good job boys, this could easily be ported for mobile, and with some luck become quite popular.

I really enjoyed this game! The quick gameplay matched with the graphics/sounds was great. I liked the progression and how the game explained itself through the levels.

That was a really nice little game! some of the ui graphics were a little bit hard to see- the sigils mixed with the numerical signs in weird ways sometimes, but it was quite enjoyable! Good use of the theme too haha

Fun little jam! Great gradual ramp-up of new ideas, starting with walls, then subtraction, then multiplication and division, every time I started to feel like it was too easy and I had a solid strategy, a new element came into play. Beautifully done pixel art. Click detection was a little finicky from time to time, but otherwise it plays very well.

I liked it a lot ! Really innovative and nice graphics. It is a bit hard sometimes and some visual clues could help. I would have liked that the strength of the spell stays on screen a little bit longer as I couldn't focus on anything else than the grid and I had no idea how well I did each time. Also a checkpoint system could be a nice addition to not start over every time (although it's pretty fast to go up in the levels). Overall a great entry ! Well done !
