Nachoverflow by Xwilarg

[raw]
made by Xwilarg for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

Hola mi amigo, you look like someone that can make some really good nachos and me and my brothers are angry, make food for us but be sure we all have the same amount, the 2 others ones are pretty jealous

The game is a tower defense where enemies come every 10 seconds, ready or not

Add turrets to cover the potato chips with guacamole so the mexican guys can eat them, but be sure to split them equally!

The whole game can be played with your mouse, please don't play it on Firefox cause somehow Unity somehow always have issues with it

Our best score during the test phase was 11422, post yours below

No avocado were harmed during the making of this project, all fruits, vegetables, cheeses and beans in this project are 18 or more even if stated otherwise, this is a work of fiction, all resemblance with reality is fortuitous

Fun theme and fun art! Sadly some problems with the click location and the game got stuck.. I guess it overflowed(: :) (:!
Got ~11600 points.

@ithebreather Thanks for the feedback! The click location issue is related to Firefox so no idea how to fix it, we also just noticed the stuck issue but I guess we will be a bit too short on time to fix this one

PS: We found the issue so we are quickly making a new WebGL build before the deadline!

Didn't get at the beginning how "shop" and "inventory" parts are working, so it was a bit frustrating

Wish sounds were more ironic, like made with own mouth. Guess it would be more fun then :D

It was a bit tough to figure things out. At first, I tried to drag things around. I got the hang of it after a few minutes and found the game to be very enjoyable.

I didn't really understand this game. I think it is some kind of tower defence :)

Really great job with this super clever title! I love the idea of a tower defence game but youre not destroying enemies, instead you're making them ready to be eaten haha I also thought it was really interesting to have a mechanic of wanting to evenly spread out between the 3 guys. I wasn't entirely clear how that was working, I saw the +X numbers sometimes on top of them and wasn't sure if they were ahead by too much or how that affected score, etc. It was also a little confusing at the start buying and placing turrets but I got it quickly. Overall really awesome job I had a lot of fun!

Really enjoyed this one. The humour and theme especially. Nachoverflow made me chuckle.

Surpringly high variety of tower types aswell with different attack types and ranges added some depth to the tower defence.

Only thing that would've made it even better is additional maps. But otherwise a really solid entry.

I had to stop playing cause I was getting addicted.
Love the art and the overall level design! It was kind of challenging at first how to know the damage radio and scope each character has. Maybe any quick UX element that gives feedback about the element you are choosing would be great.
I didn't understand either why there were numbers above the sombreros. I had a great time, thanks for that!

Fun!

It wasn't super obvious that you first click on the turret and afterwards on the spot to place it. It would be nice if the chosen turret highlighted more clearly. It would also be cool if the turret properties were displayed on mouse-over not only in the inventory, but also in the 'shop'.

Graphics are very nice, and the core gameplay kept my interest. The need to balance between brothers is a great addition to the standard tower defense formula! Very nice job on the game!

Got 33519 points! I like the artstyle and audio, it's cool that the music changes a bit when you get closer to 80% on the nachoverflow meter.
UI could be clearer to indicate what turret is currently selected.

I love the pixel pepperoni. And the humor. All of them are called Joe!

Thanks for all your comments!

@yogurtthehorse The UI was indeed a bit confusing, probably something we should have reworked!

@rolferm Indeed, the goal is to place turrets to put guacamole on the potato chips so they can be eaten by the guys

@ryan-dotsikas Thanks! The +X is indicating that some guys ate too many potato chips compared to the others! When one of them reach 50 you loose. The closest all of them are to 0, the faster your score go up! (We are also definitely super proud of our title)

@roitchie At first we were thinking of doing so, or at least doing many variants of the current map by moving the slots around but time went too fast for that, it's a great suggestion tho

@ayelen-maldonado Thanks, UI indeed need rework, for the numbers on top of the hat it's indicating that some guys ate too many potato chips and by how much

@fabula-rasa @otaviobia Thanks! I agree that we definitely should have spent more time improving the small "hints" like these

This game really wants button feedback and highlights as well as tooltips (they weren't triggering very consistently, I was on Chrome). Otherwise, an absolute blast to play.

Thanks for your comments! We have some issues with the WebGL build in Unity that does weird things with everything related to the mouse, no idea why

I struggled a bit figuring out how to place units, but once I figured it out I had a blast! Nice job

Very impressive the amount of different characters and attack modes that you've created in such short time. It would be nice to have a way to select them directly and place them instead of going to a second list on the bottom.

This is a fun game. I like the art. I think I reached nacho equilibrium where I will never die.
