YoU arE THe kiLLeR by Crawler Studios
*See development notes with a list of bugs and FAQ's at the bottom of description.*
Description:
You, are the killer. It's a warm summers night; three friends are camping out in the woods, sitting by the fire. Little do they know that the fire is the only thing keeping them safe from death, from a killer, from you.
As the campers venture off into the darkness, it is your job to stalk and kill them all without being caught.
Controls:
- W, A, S, D or Arrow Keys to move.
- Left Shift to sprint.
- Left Click to attack
- Space Bar to jump (not really needed)
How To Play:
- Kill everyone without getting caught.
- You can get caught by walking within the AI's line of sight, which is highlighted with a very subtle, transparent shade of blue.
- If you walk within their line of sight(s), you are caught and you lose the game.
* Note that there is a line of sight surrounding the campfire while 1 or more people are still there*
Personal Notes:
I know this game isn't a traditional game, but it is what it is and I hope you enjoy it. I made it in under 48 hours, so it's a little ugly looking and very simple, but I think it's a cool idea. Hopefully no one gets offended that this game is about killing innocent people, I just got the idea from the Ludum Dare theme ("You Are The Monster") and from my new-found addiction to 'scary story' videos on YouTube. Please rate this game well on its Ludum Dare page if you participated in the compo/jam. Happy killing :)
Boring Stuff:
Made for Ludum Dare 33, 48 hour compo. This game was made from scratch, using game assets only created by me (Crawler). The game was created in less than 48 hours during Ludum Dare 33. All source code is provided on this page through a simple download.

Dev Notes:
Alright so it's been about a week since I've uploaded the game and I'd like to thank everyone who's played for all the great feedback! This is by far my best Ludum Dare submission out of the four years I've participated. I have noted some glitches and issues reported about the game so I'm writing this to explain them.
1) Unity's console popping up mid-game and issues with the player.
So I have two possible reasons for this happening: one would be that people are playing the game in Google Chrome, another is that I might have to go fix a few things in the game's code. In case you didn't know, Chrome stopped supporting Unity and a few other engines' web plugins, so the best thing you can do is try playing on Edge, Safari, Firefox, or Opera to fix any issues with the player itself -such as console popping up or mouse being freed from player-.
2) Game difficulty.
So I've noticed a few people saying the game is a little too hard. I've narrowed it down to either the vision cones not being visible enough on screens that might have lower gamma or brightness, and also the speed of the AI's movement animations. These are things that I will have to patch so there's nothing that you can do about it. So just deal with it until I patch it.
3) FPS drops and graphics.
So this is more of something that I've noticed while play testing my game. I've noticed some significant frame drops in the game, especially when close to the camp fire or next to the flashlight. This is also something that needs to be patched and will be patched soon.
* Note that a patch for the game will be coming soon as well as a Windows and Mac port with graphical options will be available soon. *
Please make sure to leave any bugs or glitches you find in the game when leaving your comment. You are allowed to make minor changes to your game such as bug fixes, so it would be a great help if anyone could report bugs to me either in your comment on the submission itself or on my Twitter. Thanks for playing!
*UPDATE*
Okay, just updated the game. Changed the AI's line of sights to the colour red so they are easier to spot. I also fixed all of the "null reference exception" errors people were seeing in Unity's console while playing.

It's a nice game and with a good 'psychopathic' atmosphere! The vision cones around the area were definitely a great help to communicate to the player how the campers' awareness functioned so I think that was a great thing to include! ❤
About the game itself, I like the mood you created and the sound effects. The 'heavy' movimentation added even more to the mood. Nice entry.
The mood, music and sfx were really good, reminded me a lot of slender but in reverse - so matched the theme too.
