Gladiato"R"Us by Maxime Cyr

[raw]
made by Maxime Cyr for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

Welcome to the Gladiato"R"Us arena!

To participate, you will first need to go to the Baby Factory. Every 10s you will be offered a selection of 2 potential babies. The baby that you pick will join your team, the other will go against you. Read their description carefully to see their strengths and weaknesses, but don't take too much time. If you haven't picked after 10 seconds, they will both go against you.

Once your team has been picked, position your troops on the left side of the arena and watch the battle unfold.

This is a great game and I'm genuinely shock you guys were able to make it in under 72 hour. The art was great and I really love all the little animations that just made the game come alive. The humor was also on point with all the fantastically written descriptions. Overall you guys did a great job!!!

This was a fun game, it was hilarious reading through all the baby descriptions and deciding based on those. Genuinely impressed you managed to pull this all together in 72 hours. I managed to get my ass beat every time I played, which was a bit frustrating, but that was probably mostly my fault lol.

Very funny concept. I liked the use of time pressure to make the baby selecting more interesting and the art and humor added a lot. If you keep working on it, I'd suggest making each of the babies stand out more visually to give the game just a bit more personality. All-in-all, well done!

Love the humor! I won on the 2nd try (first one I only chose 8 babies because I was still reading the descriptions)

It looks and sounds amazing and is a very interesting idea. But, I didn't really understand how my choices of which babies or their placement on the arena had what effect on the outcome of the game.

I felt the choice of the babies was a bit drawn out, though the fighting was cool!

The HTML isn't working! But I'd love to play!

Wasn't sure the best way to setup the babies. Seemed a little random. Neat idea though.

You should have started the game right on arena, skipping all the lab tubes part. I am pretty sure most players click randomly without reading just to get to the battle as soon as possible.

Also, to fix html build you should change compression format in build settings in unity for none.

I really liked the backstory of the babies, but it felt like just a random choice, it would've been nice to see some stats for a more informed decision. The humor was definitely there throughout, really enjoyed it!

This is awesomely wicked! I really enjoyed the humor, loved the concept, and totally sucked at the game itself . The visuals are nice and so is the music.

The placement of the babies was a bit bugged for me (I played the web version on Firefox). I had trouble grabbing the babies and really had to click around to finally manage. I also noticed one visual bug - babies with melee weapon have their arm "broken" - the sprites are badly aligned.

In my three attempts, I tried different formations, but never managed to win. My baby commanding skills are quite poor indeed

Sometimes I felt like it's too much to read in such short time! Had fun watching the battle in the end! Not sure if positioning actually affected the outcome, but I won anyway! ^^

I, uh. That was something alright. Choosing babies felt a little random, I wasn't really sure what the descriptions meant. The fighting was kinda interesting, a nice little strategic placement and then watching those babies fight :face_palm:

There wasn't really a lot to do, but you definitely made something with some sort of vision.

Choosing the babies was a little tedious for me personally, which made it not fit the theme super well IMO. I found myself just skipping through the last couple just to see what happens.

The baby fight was funny though

Hilarious, loved it! The choosing got a bit tedious but that's just a nitpick.

I love this game! Reminds me of Plants VS Zombies and the end screen made me feel very guilty to my actions. 9/10
