links not working :(

@kimynay, sorry, there were some issues with my hosting, and I didn't dare to try embedding, as even my normal links from the previous LD stopped being visible (right now this weird double-link format is the only thing which does it for me).

Anyway, it should be up and running now.

A way to deselect an action would be nice

Cool art and music, could do with some more work on the selection and some more UI action, but a cool style of game.

@dysleixc, @thegamearchitect, Thank you for your feedback, I was a bit surprised that the only complaints by now are the ones related to the UI. Because, as these primitive games go, I was quite proud of this version of the UI. I agree that the deselect option won't hurt, but you can also BRAVELY click on anything if you selected an action by mistake! With all seriousness, I really didn't think it will be that of an issue during development.

Cool art style and music
don't know if there was anything else to do beyond getting two items, I feel like I checked and talked to everything
My only real criticism was the amount of grammatical errors; text is a core aspect for this type of game, and that kind of took me out of the immersion a bit

@velaachlorine, thank you for your fedback, sorry about the errors, sadly, in these time constraints the final writting is usually the last thing to go, and sadly I don't use English for anything sophisticated on the daily basis.

As for the game itself, you can use the items in your inventory on other objects or characters. This will surely bring you to the end.

As an artist I just really enjoyed the analog art in this game. Such an original idea and very interesting characters. Love it!

Visual is stylish and embedded in the game very well. It's interesting to have such old fashion mechanic to play with in this game.

Really unique art style that really stands out. I struggled to figure out what to do with the items in my inventory and the arrows sometimes seemed non-intuitive.

Are there different endings? Because the one I got seems to be rather tragic, heh.

I love the art style, and the music. To put this together in the time you did is really impressive! The puzzles were tough but fair. A way to deselect actions would be good, but that's the only real note I had. Good job!

@msplanlos, Thank you, to be honest, this art seems a bit sloppy at times, not my strongest for sure, but I finally managed to finish the game of this scope within COMPO.

@carrotvan, I am glad you liked it, I also don't remember the last time I saw something like 90s quests. I think our big leaps forward in graphics and "moon logic" killed them. But recently I was studying them a lot, which in part inspired this game. There is so many fantastic set pieces and world building in them.

05. Oct 2022 · 17:52 UTC
@wilko, glad you liked the art, and, judging by your struggles, I managed to create a bit of "moon logic" myself. At least there are no dead ends...

As for the arrows, yes, there is at least one time when I broke 180-degree rule, got a bit carried away in the draft for the map.

@lex, No, I abandoned the concept for different endings in this entry, as I wanted the whole story to lead to this climax. So, yes, saddly, it's not a very bright closer.

@capitals, Thanks, the atmosphere and overall integrity are my main goals with this type of games. And I see that in user-friendliness and basic quality of life improvements I still have a long way to go.

Cool ideas, and I like the art.

!> I got stuck with the watch - what do I do with it? I could not figure this out.

Would love to see the end. Nice job.

This absolutely blew me away! This must be one of my favorite games this LD. The art style is just out of this world, the writing is amazing and the atmosphere you created was unbelievable. The music was amazing too! The gameplay took me back into days where I used to play point and click adventures.
This is really amazing amount of work you were able to pull off and you are extremely talented. Well done, I am impressed!

PROS: Stunning art! Nice music, very cohesive atmosphere, loved it!

CONS: I think I got to the end but I am not sure because didn´t have feedback of that. Just coudn´t click anything more. I missed some sound effects.

I really enjoy drinking in the atmosphere. The amped guitar and hand made art give this a different and very memorable vibe.

Wow what an eerie but atmospheric game. Very artistic both not just in the art itself but the story. The world portayed is disturbing but intruiging.

I think I got to the end? It didn't seem to be accepting any more input, but I did enjoy both music tracks and of course the wonderful art.

It's a beautiful, atmospheric world you created, the music and the art really give a great mood to this short adventure. I didn't understand the jam's theme connection, but it didn't matter much as I enjoyed it.

@pbg, Thank you and glad that you liked it.

Sorry, I don't know the wizardry of making your comments with spoilers hidden, so I will write it plainly.

**--- CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS ---**

The watch is a cunning ploy to distract and confuse the player (old adventure games style). The first thing you need to do is to find a motor and place it on your boat.

@dzejpi, Thank you so much and you are way to kind. As I said previously, I think that due to the time constrains of compo, art looks a bit rusty at times. But I am glad that it still works.

@serxiolas, Well it's either the end or SOMETHING GOT TERRIBLY WRONG. So, I hope for the first option.
Actually, if the music changed - you are on the right spot.

About the sounds, I agree, got too worked up with other stuff, so there weren't much time to do them properly. And I didn't want to add something on the fly. As in the game when you need to click on everything and try to do everything, some rushed sound effects may have been very annoying.

@caeonosphere, Nice, about "Is this the end?" question, - if the music changed - it's the end. The is no "End Game" subtitle, but I thought that the last screen speaks for itself that it's a final one you'll see.

@delpod, Jam connection isn't strongly defined... BUT, if you click on the Forest in the beginning of the game, the character will say that disturbing flares (which started his anxiety) light up EVERY 10 SECONDS. I rest my case.

This is awesome! The watercolor looks incredible and really makes this project stand out among the other game jam games. The controls were intuitive and I had a lot of fun examining the world you've created. The imagery and themes are unsettling and definitely anxiety-inducing, but it's given me a lot to think about. I'm curious, what did you use to make this game?

Love the visual and music, remind me of Hylics and other weird surreal game that I love. I got the ending, but it was a bit sad to not having anything to do with some item
!> The crown was disappointingly useless...

But it was still fun to discover these land ! Good entry!

@real-human-1000, Thank you, I am glad to finally hear something positive about the interface as well.

If you are asking what did I use from the technical perspective, - it's just HTML&CSS and pure Javascript. With NO CANVAS, because it's as primitive as it can get.
🎤 lesinvisible
07. Oct 2022 · 17:35 UTC
@ribout-horace, Thanks, I never heard of Hylics before, but, after I checked what is it, it's a very flattering comparison.

But this item gave your character strenght to go into the great unknown, into the darkness of our souls...

A fine game, albeit with a grim ending. What is Ludum Dare without your surreal and mind-blowing artwork? Nothing. Or: Not much. It is good to see you are still contributing here. Your games never fail to convey a unique and powerful impression. Vous êtes un véritable artiste, monsieur.

I never was good at point and click games lol, i really liked the artstyle, also i am confused why since the guy didn't want to go empty handed, i couldn't just grab the submachine gun, yeah it wouldn't help as later when i entered the forsest i just got melted, but i would still grab that if i were the protagonist, cuz who knows what will be there

@gamebuilder, Thank you, what a Ludum Dare without your review and kind words. About the contributions, to be honest, lately I am thinking that it will be much more useful and productive to concentrate on a full standalone game instead of LD jams. As I do any game development only here. Maybe it's time to get more organizized.

@noeloskar, Thanks, it's hard to say what's on the mind of our silent protagonist, I guess he doesn't want to go empty handed in a more spiritual sense.

Nice art but it really could have used more interactions. Nice music! Bummer that some of the items and many of the characters weren't needed. Love to see another plain HTML/CSS/JS game!

@lesinvisible Well I hope you don’t quit Ludum Dare. That would be sad. Your games are always among the best entries here. You could do something like what I tried to do: give yourself 24 hours (or less). It doesn’t eat up too much time, and it’s in the spirit of the original Ludum Dare. Just a thought.

Nice game. The water color style gives the game quite an unique look and I like it. I believe I also reached the end, although some sort of indication of it would have been nice. I got stuck after fixing the boat but replayed after reading some of the comments, to see the end.

Good job!

@bentglasstube, Thank you, yes, one of the reason the game is too short is that it takes too much time to make these scenes. Especially with my mediocre programming skills.

22. Oct 2022 · 19:25 UTC
@tattomoosa, Thanks, yes, you caught me there, many items don't have much gameplay purpose and, sadly, COMPO deadline doesn't allow the luxury of giving to even empty gameplaywise elements much needed fluff.

@coderaurus, Nice, I am glad that you made it, I will try to include the "END GAME" sign anywhere I go from now on. I am flattered that you loved the art style, taking into account that I went with COMPO this time, it was a bit rushed, but it's good that it's still enjoyable.
