Homunculus Heist

Homunculus Heist is a creative effort between a group of friends tackling their first ever Ludum Dare. The game is developed in PlayCanvas and involves custom solutions for procedural generation and enemy tracking. All assets from code to art to music are completely original and developed over the course of the weekend with the exception of some sound effects taken from open-source libraries. Surprisingly fun for such a simple concept. Even scared me a bit on the first time!

Great looking game and the controls feel super nice. Surprisingly scary as well

I am not exactly sure why I am dying though, cause the enemy didn't catch up to me.

Great job on your first game

I like the feel of the movement and the graphics are really cool. Was scary and really intense when the music and character movement just keeps getting faster and faster every 10 seconds until I died lol. Nice job!

I definitely got jump scared a couple times! The ramping up of speed really made me feel more adrenaline, which was a really nice touch. Lasted 1:10 on my best run (pun intended).

The mood is really great.

I am really getting old but man when I was a child all games looked like this. Really nice style :D

NOOO I HATE you :D Jump scared :D Next time please some warnings, we are not used to jump scare here :D

Anyway about the game.
That graphics is awesome, I like it. Almost nailed that theme, but it still very thing what I imagine as this theme.. Amazing amazing mood, it nailded me. I love audio in the game, I want it more!. Really ?! That game is really fun, good job. Somebody use more time to think about the game then others, it is visible in inovations!. Overall your game is good, good job.

Great concept, and a fan of that low-poly aesthetic.

Not exactly sure what I was supposed to be doing, but the atmosphere was really great and the controls where smooth, running felt really cool!

definately benefits from being dark, but there are ways to have a dark scene where you can still see where youre going. Cool idea, and well done for getting a game together and submitted into Ludum Dare this year!

Now how should I rate it in "fun" section? Running for your life from a monster, while holding another one in a jar is hardly "fun". It turns out that running past the enemy and falling out of the level - despite looking like a greatest idea - does not count, and after some time you still get caught >:

Good job with the style and sound it helps a lot with instilling a frantic mood. I couldn't tell if there was anything more to do than running and resetting, but controls felt good and the procedural generation was impressive.

Loved the mood and the artstyle. It was really stressful, almost as much as submitting the ludum dare entry. I love the concept of stealing a homunculus. The only con I can think of is that the flip switch was very disorientating and a bit of a flow breaker, but still fun.

Spooky! Love the aesthetic, controls feel really fluid and nice, the random teleportation was jarring and disorientating in a good way.

Overall a very moody, claustrophobic and unsettling experience. I liked it a lot, good job guys!

Call me thoroughly SPOOKED!!! Oh man, but even with my brief stint, it was a fun but panic-enducing game. xD I have to watch someone else last longer so I can see how much more twisted things get XD

Creepy as hell, well done. You made a creepy game with the least amount of mechanics possible. I'm still not sure what the glass jar is for though.

I'm scared. The game is awesome, the sound FX are great. Good job guys!

@seisus it doesn't serve any purpose other than a narrative one. The jar contains the Homunculus which you've stolen.

That was very spooky and I obviously like the audio and art style (as someone who has worked on multiple dark pixel-style games for LDJam myself). I had no idea where I was running or what I was running from, but that unsettling audio made me just bolt it in whatever direction, which was *very* effective. Good job!

My first time playing I think I immediately ran face first into the monster, clipped through the floor and fell into the void until I died. On my second run I hit a dead end with an invisible wall that let me look out into the void. Apparently, when I run *away* in terror, I run *into* bugs...

I'm terribly afraid of such games. Perhaps floating polygons with PS ONE have added even more immersion

Hello, I was just minding my own business when a distraught fello came barreling towards me. Seemed like they needed assistance so naturally I ran straight towards him and then he disappeared and then, quite an awkward pause later, he was behind me! Not sure what's going on, but had a blast!

Love the mood and theming of it, but I can't quite figure out if there's more than running around?

Very spooky, I appreciate the sound design that the music gets faster as the enemy is getting near to you. Congrats on your first LD! You guys really did a good job!

WOW it was unexpected fast progression of the required speed and reaction. Tho I've died somehow... probably on timer I was still running forward and the enemy spawned right in front of me.

I like the atmosphere tho, really nice work with the look & feel, best horror game I've seen on LD at all.

Super cool horror game! The graphics make it super immersive for me. Atmosphere is really on point. Only issue is the movement contorl seems a little too slippery for me. Good jobs!
