Fall Girl by civmaniac

Every 10 seconds a skyscraper window washer falls to his death - The Onion
As this 'totally serious' and 'completely correct' study (quoted above) shows, being a window washer is a very dangerous profession. You balance on the edge, see things better left unseen, witness friends try and fail to fly. And every 10 seconds, you are in great danger of being the one that will fall to her death. But hey, that’s the job and someone has to do it.
Gameplay
You are a window washer. So go wash some windows! When in doubt, jump on things. Try not to fall too much!
Keybindings
- Keyboard: AD or Arrow Keys to walk, Space or Arrow Up to jump, E to wash
- Controller: L Thumb or D-pad to walk, A to jump, B to wash

Good night for now, though!
But I didn't really understand the theme of every 10 seconds.
I thought maybe the platform moves every 10 seconds or you have to dodge something every 10 seconds, but when I counted it wasn't 10 seconds.
Or I'm just bad at telling time idk.
Have I missed something?
But good game, I liked it :)
As to the 10 seconds - our first connection to it was the 'fact' that every 10 seconds a window washer falls to his death (as per the linked 'study'). However, we found that that is an enormous death toll of window washers .
That's pretty creative with the window washers fact.
I wouldn't have thought of this
My only complaint is that i almost did not play past the first level, because at first I did not realize that I could make the jump to the far right window.
Also I appreciate the linux build.

The game graphics and sounds makes my eyes and ears feel good.
Thank you for the submition of yours!
very funny game! Just one question: Why Grandma are so mean?!
Balancing is good, it was challenging but I managed to reach the end without frustration
It was a nice game to play !
that old hag... aaargh
Great game! I loved the 2d vector look, I haven't seen as much of that style but it looks very polished and professional. Very fun style and vibe. I did give up on the second level because it's quite slow to clean all the windows, and waiting for the platforms to move feels very slow, and I have the attention span of a squirrel, so when I got all the way to the end of a level only to die on the last window, I couldn't quite bring myself to go through the entire thing again. That's probably just me.
Well done!
@ladymeow @chillertyp @theorioli @don-fouts @gonzalol @incd021 @bcmpinc @i-wrote-it-myself @epeachyband @pikario @dahut @sterco-raro
@joshua-denk You might be correct. This was our first attempt at any kind of platforming
@ugghmaster Thanks for pointing this out. Maybe I should have added a second arrow pointing to that window as well to make it more obvious. Probably would help
@dp3rucha Our connection to the theme is in the fact from the study we quote at the start of the game (which I now added to the description page to make it more clear - thank you for pointing out that it wasn't really :)). Originally, we also had events spawning every 10 seconds to reinforce the theme further, but it turned out to be not often enough on later levels, so we decreased the timer there (and it's cheated 'every 10 seconds' now )
@picusbgames Don't worry about the brave window washers - the quoted study is extremely unreliable  I'm glad you like the title!
@paul-avallone We had a lot of ideas for various obstacles and boons on our list. This concept really lends itself to creativity. We implemented as many as we managed in the jam time. Various cleaning tools are a nice idea!
@triangletriangle The old lady is indeed the scariest. When she takes her cane in hand, men tremble. I'm very happy you like the look of the game! As to the slowness of window cleaning, you might not be the only one. It was mentioned by one more person - so there is at least two of you  It might be that we indeed made it a bit too slow. However, making it faster would probably affect the balance and could make the game too easy. It would require some testing.
@beefbone The initial concept was actually for the player to operate the lift himself. However, we decided to change it to the automatic movement to provide more platforming elements.
Loved what you made out of that Onion article!
Very solid gameplay with very sensible progression and even a learning experience - While in hindsight it makes total sense a Pizza delivery drone will drop... Pizza, making the connection myself that the drone differs from the bird in that way was still a very welcome surprise... in the last level with one heart left. :'D
Also as always - big fan of the unique art style! The environmental art and backgrounds really sold the setting!
I was wondering if drone wouldn't be too hard to read. In hindsight, that pizza box/label should have been probably bigger and draw attention.
There's also a secret ending, and since it's not too obvious it's a secret, I wonder if anyone got it 😅
It was fun and challenging! I find the first major jump to the dirty window quite difficult. I would loved a little sparkle effect and sfx when a window is successfully cleaned! Also the levels were quite long. Maybe shorter ones but more? It's a flavour thing I guess. Oh and it took me way to long to figure out you can jump on drones and get pizza! Maybe a hint would be nice. The game and the visuels were quite charming! The music was fitting. Enjoyed it overall.
As much as i'm indifferent to platformers, this was great fun!)
Also please normalise babusya-yellow bucket interaction

The only major feedback I have is that the level design could use some work. In some levels it is a bit annoying to have to wait for the "elevator" to move multiple times so you can get to those last windows. I would have hoped to see more platforming routes between windows so that the elevator would be the safe route but if the player wants to proceed quicker then they can take the risk and do a series of jumps to get there.
I also noticed that there is a really cool jump boost mechanic with the elevator. If you jump at the peak of the elevator movement you can jump really high. I do not know whether this was intended but it is very neat and it would have been great to see levels that take advantage of this.
But overall, a really solid entry. Very high standards what it comes to jam games in general!
The difficulty curve was good, the first level wasn't too easy but also not too difficult, and the last one was a
bit of a challenge (in a good way).
I really just have some smaller nitpicks: The controls (especially jumping) sometimes didn't work smoothly. Also, waiting for the platforms to move (and then hoping that they move in the right direction) sometimes was a bit annoying. Controlling the platform movement via keys would have been cool.
But all in all a very very great game! :)
@booremi @birdy-games @katreenashy @fuzzybut @babbersher @cedric86 @enderr42 @vulpez @midna
@trexxak The Hypnotoad must be honored! It told me so, and who am I to argue with the most glorious toad. I'm always happy to hear that you like the art :).
@ryan-dotsikas At the start, we planned on giving the player control of the elevators. But we changed our minds to this automatic movement to provide more platforming opportunities. However, that might have been a bad decision, as a few people mentioned that waiting for the platform to come can be tedious.
@tex-killer Yeah, we had some bugs with the jumping that we weren't able to completely squash. And the secret ending is indeed well-hidden. There is even a clue to it on the wall - so vague that nobody will ever get it
@oakhardt A sparkle effect on a cleaned window is a great idea! Like in an old window washing fluid commercials  I did make the pizza box too small. Should have been bigger and drawing more attention - then I think the players would get it fast. After all - it's pizza, when isn't that a good thing? Don't get me started on this city. It's a hellhole, a den of scum and villainy, and you haven't even seen the half of it. I heard that the people living on higher floors hate their window washers even more, and they are quite craaaazy (who do you think is throwing down all those poor guys that you see falling!). There are rumors of crazy cat ladies, vampires, seagulls with permanent diarrhea... it's a madhouse up there.
@outfrost We did have a bug problem when it came to jumping that we were never able to quite squash.
@nash Alternative platforming routes for the brave (or the mad ;)) are a great idea! Thanks for that!
@binarydiv We had problems with the jumping when making the game - a bug that we were sadly not able to squash in time. Sorry that you ran into it. When we came up with the game, we actually were going to give control of the platforms to the player. We changed our minds in the process to put more emphasis on platforming. Might have been a bad decision
@cosmo-nectarine Thank you for playing and taking the time to leave a comment. Grandma is indeed a menace to society
@figadei Thank you for playing and very glad you liked the visuals :)
@tigerfinch Grandma is the worst - everyone agrees  This was our first attempt at anything resembling a platformer, so the movement indeed requires more work.
Finally, the fact that hazards interact with one another - like when a parrot gets clocked on its head by a grandma - gives opportunity for a chuckle.

Here's a list of changes:
- Improved jumping and better controls.
- New enemy: Ghost.
- Player can now jump on bullets.
- New particle effect plays when window gets fully cleaned.
- Revised pizza box graphics.
Thank you for your feedback!
The graphics are very nice and I enjoyed all the different obstacles and enemies and their animations. I also enjoyed how sometimes they interacted, like the bullets killing the bird.
I like the in-game instructions on the wall. I was a bit confused in the first level though, because I didn't see the window on the right as a window I should clean, because of the big arrow ;)
Original take on the theme! For the later levels, I think it's good that you dropped the 10 second interval and things happened faster. Sometimes the waiting for the moving thing was a bit boring if all the windows nearby were already clean. It was unclear for me in the beginning why jumping didn't always work, but apparently you can't jump while cleaning. Makes sense I guess, otherwise you would just hold E all the time, but it did confuse me for a moment. I read that you already have a post-jam version. Maybe you could also add some splashes of water while cleaning the window?
In the web version, the music sometimes hangs in transitions between levels or when restarting a level. Might also be because currently my laptop isn't plugged in.
Overall, very well done!
Pros:
- Quite nice music!
- Funky animations and a likeable character (even though she's silent)
- Multiple obstacles and 'enemies'
- Color scheme is pleasant to the eye
- Good take on the theme in mechanics
I don't really have much of cons, and considering time limitations, you guys went beyond of what's expected. Excellent job!
Overall, I liked the concept and I finally understood how a job of a window cleaner can be disastrous. Well done!
All in all, this feels really polished. Really stellar work!
