Rogue Circuit by Kaje Cimhael

[raw]
made by Kaje Cimhael for Ludum Dare 51 (EXTRA)

Rogue Circuit is a top down Shoot 'em up, where one of the controls for your ship will change to a different Input every 10 seconds.

The controls start simple with WASD to move, and I for your main gun and O for a recharging laser beam.

(Although now listed under Extra, this was completed as a Jam game)

Cool take on the theme. My brain won't work with the ever changing controls and it seems like you can't die. Interesting fresh way of doing an old classic. Did you work alone on this?

Really enjoyed trying to control the ship.

@mrmaico Thanks for the feedback, I realise now that the control shifting was too drastic, if I had to do it again I'd make the new inputs closer to the original button.
I made it so you only lose score when you get hit, other than dying (Since I couldn't win my own game with even 50 health)
And I made it by myself, other than the music.

The implementation of the mechanics is done very well

Our game did the same thing, however we also found out that changing the input (we actually randomly inverted the X and Y axis) was really hard, and even by giving direct feedback to the user it was too hard. What we did was rotate the camera around, because eventually the input would change.

One simple and cool solution you can use is to alternate between 10 seconds of the player being able to shoot and then 10 seconds of using a shield that depletes fast but being used correctly can absorb energy to shoot more powerful shots on the shooting phase.

Nice work!

It was very hard, maybe have way less bullets + they move very slow, giving the player time to move out of the way. Cool take on the theme, nice entry!

Such an interesting concept. A little uncomfortable to do on a smaller keyboard but I love shoot em ups and this scratched that itch!

@thiago-valle Thank you for the feedback. That is a really good idea that I will 'borrow' from you. (Honestly I wish I thought of that)

@spike-studio Very good points that I should have spotted or changed. I will keep things like that in mind going forward. Also, thanks for letting me know. (I've had to change the game type to Extra, this is unfortunately what happens when you finish 10 minutes from the deadline)

@mossgames I didn't considered smaller keyboards, that's my bad. I'm a big fan of the genre, so I wanted to try my hand at making one.

funny concept. too hard when left and right are changed often.. when only up and down are changed, it doesn't really impact the game.
