Pretty cool game
- UI size was far too big, it's important to use scaling UI as it did cover 30% of the top of my screen. Another good solution is to make the UI see through so in case it is too big players can still get information on the enemies behind there.
- Adding more responsive controls to the player, in a game which does not allow vertical and horizontal movement at the same time its important to use the MOST RECENT input for better feeling inputs, also saving buttons pressed so the override only has effect for the time pressed
- Using more congruent colors, gray elements with red text is very visually unappealing, a good way to go about making good looking UI is to get a colour pallet online!
- More feedback for being hit would improve game feel alot, for example flashing red or animations or sounds
Great job on the entry though! Single deving a full game jam game is really tough and you did really well!
Good game !
Even though the gameplay is very simplistic (the only thing that stops you from moving are the boundaries of the map, everything else seems to be decoration), on my first run I got stuck bellow the bottom right cactus somehow.
Enemies will always chase you, and they do nothing to the ship or the droid. I don't know if it was intentional, but it seems the best strategy is to just keep running in circles without ever firing. You'll gather a mob of enemies but they will always be far behind you. If I didn't get stuck in the cactus I believe I would have succeeded in my first run.
Maybe there should be some incentive to shooting the enemies? They could maybe lose interest in you and attack the droid, or maybe they surround you somehow...
Anyway, congratulations on submitting the game!
The main thing that i have to say is that it needs better controls, you cant move in diagonals, it seems like there's a delay when you release the key and the character actually stops moving, also moving and shooting is impossible because the shots disappear for some reason, the character shoots with the mouse click but doesn't shoot in the direction, this is one is just a pet peeve of mine because i think that if you dont shoot in the mouse direction choose other way to shoot.
Music would be nice and some sfx as well.
The art is very cute, if you don't mind me asking what arts exactly did you make? Because almost everything that's in the game came from another asset, as you said on the "Used assets" screen.
Overall was nicely put together, needs some polish specially the movement and controls, but is a nice start and could be pretty fun with some fixes
The game is held back a bit due to the unconventional character control scheme. Movement on a grid feels odd since the game is real time and you cannot even see the grid. And as many others have said, shooting with mouse feels a bit off as well since it shoots to your last direction rather towards the mouse. Just remove the grid movement and allow player to shoot to the mouse direction and the game will already be a lot better.
That being said, the grid movement creates some interesting glitches in the current build. You can run forward, tap back and shoot and you slide to the movement direction and shoot backwards. I personally enjoy movement tricks like this but I would still prefer a more conventional control scheme.
But overall, a solid entry art-wise. A few tweaks to the movement and shooting and this could be pretty good!
First things first, I would suggest working on bug fixes and allow diagonal movement. It should make gameplay more smooth. Pause the gameplay during dialogs would be great too.
A few times I got stuck on the level's edges, but "Go to center" button helped a lot.

I guess it was mentioned already, but UI really covers a lot of space and you can't see the main character when he is roaming at the top. You can try to make it smaller/transparent, or make the camera FOV/viewport/etc larger instead.

Still, I think this is a great entry, and wish you luck with further development! :muscle: :blue_heart: :yellow_heart:
