In an unstable solar system, the star releases a shock every ten seconds! Hide behind the asteroids to avoid destruction while fighting back against the enemy swarm trying to keep you from escaping!

Use the mouse to control your ship. Click the left mouse button to shoot.

Extra life at 5000 points. Additional extra lives every additional 10000 points.

When the screen turns red and the alarm sounds, hide in the shadows of the asteroids to avoid being destroyed by the star shock.

nice game! I liked the solar flare/shockwave, especially with the area behind the asteroids narrowing and fluctuating a bit. on a small note, I think the score needs to be reset on game over, but overall really cool!

Graphics were simple and sweet, felt quite like an old retro game! Liked the laser SFX too, and the spin of using asteroids as protection from the bombardment. Having the bullets be affected by gravity really messes up with your game senses, but it's an interesting twist!

I did end up getting spawn-camped a lot of the times though haha

@matt-swieboda Oh shoot, good catch on the bug. Let me fix that real quick!

@bxyzzz They're not affected by gravity, they're rockets. ^^()

@jacob-diaz Thanks! :) I decided to lean hard into it once I decided on a space shmup.

@akai-syuuichi The game is harder than I meant it to be. ^^() I didn't have time to tune it the way I wanted to.

Great twist to a classic style game. I enjoyed the responsiveness to the game. I am not sure if the enemies are randomly spawned but that would be a cool tweak to have a pattern for them if you decide to work more on the game. Great working game!

@partysquadmember They're spawned with a pattern but they path around the asteroids, so any pattern that might have arisen gets drowned out. There was supposed to be more of a pattern as the game progressed as well, but I didn't get the chance to add in more enemy types.

The mouse was a little tough to control, WASD or arrow keys would definitely make it easier to play. The concept was pretty cool though. I like the twist.

@rogueagente Huh, I went with mouse because I thought WASD would be unfairly difficult. ^^() But I suppose I can work that in later.

Nice concept. I did like the projection of where the danger zone will be. Although, the accuracy of it seemed to drop off a lot with distance from the asteroid.

As others mentioned, the difficulty is very steep and the mouse controls don't feel right. I barely made it 30 seconds after 4 games, as the enemies are so numerous. I can't enjoy the element of the game built for the theme because I'm getting hit by missiles or ships first.

Definitely some balancing needed, but this could be something pretty cool.

A simple concept with very solid execution.

Sometimes I found the asteroids would fall into the corners and not provide any cover, forcing a death. They probably need to be constrained more.

Had a lot of fun playing this! The mechanics are simple but come together in a very enjoyable way.

Nice work!

Nice game! maybe the enemy ships bullets should be brighter so that we can see them well. I think the mecanism of huge shocks every 10 seconds where you have to hide behind comets is a great idea!
Congrats!

This is super hard but the aesthetic and mood is very consistent! I would like to see a few more mechanics in favor of the player. For example, allowing him to shoot during respawn invulnerability frames. Also the rockets fall really fast and are hard to dodge. Excellent take on the theme with the shock event. Great job!

I actually liked moving around with the mouse, also the stars shock's sound, effect, delivery are on point. I had fun restarting it many (many) times and that alone is unusual to me! Nicely done.

I had fun, and the idea was good, but there were some issues that really took away from my enjoyment. First of all, the enemy bullets were tiny, dull coloured, accelerated, which made it nearly impossible for me to distinguish them from the background, especially when the star exploded. On top of that, the hitbox of the player was huge, and so was the enemy bullet hitbox. Player should also be allowed to shoot during invincibility after respawn. Also, sometimes you just got really unlucky with the asteroids, which felt really bad. I think a little bit of tweaking the mechanics would make this a lot more enjoyable.

I enjoyed the turning effects on your space ship and the shadow effects before the flare came. I did find it a bit cramped, which didn't allow me much space to maneuver. Though the solar flare did clean up any excess enemies.

I love the retro sound effects and the frantic gameplay! I found it kind of difficult to read the projectiles though, probably because of the similar-looking stars in the background. I also think it might have been a little too hard, though it was satisfying when the asteroid storm wiped out the enemies. Overall, this was a fun retro-inspired game. Nice work!

nice game, it plays a lot more fluidly than I expected from these types of games. Although the rockets are kinda hard to see against the backdrop

Feels very smooth. Classic take on these type of games. I died quickly the first time, but had fun doin it. I with there were more barriers to hide behind.

Cool idea and plays pretty smoothly. Controlling with the mouse is very awkward though, with the move speed limit. Would be much easier on keyboard
