How to play

Grow, harvest, and eat crops to survive.

  1. Use logs to build a ladder up to a higher terrace. Ladders can be built on the light green grass and sand terraces.
  2. Use the axe to cut down trees, and get more logs.
  3. Use the scythe on tall grass to get seeds.
  4. Use the hoe on the dark green and light green grass terraces to churn up some soil.
  5. Use the seeds on hoed soil to plant them.
  6. Use the watering can on the hoed soil to water it.
  7. Refill the watering can by using it near some water.
  8. Wait a few days for your crops to grow. Remember to water them every day.
  9. Use the scythe to harvest your fully grown crops.
  10. Eat the grown crops by using them when you are hungry.
  11. Hunger drains every night, and the rate increases after a few days.
  12. Remember to ensure your hunger doesn't drain, or you'll die!

I really dig this. I love how big the world is. I got lost a few times and forgot where my crops were haha. Took a little bit to get used to the rhythm of the game, but it was nice once you got into it. I think the animation for falling asleep is a little bit long, but that's nitpicking. Great work!

I played this before any of the information you put out was there, and I was very confused haha. I played for a few days but on day the crops just died, I'm not sure why. I watered them everyday even :(. The game kept crashing when I pressed Q when the item was all the way to the left, but eventually I figured out why it was crashing and stopped doing it haha. Overall a good game, I like it, I like the art

Thanks for playing!
@cukeds Your crops won't die if you don't water them, but they also won't grow. The yellow crops are wheat and should still be harvestable with your scythe! Also, I've fixed an issue with the toolbar, so hopefully that issue won't happen anymore!

The pixel art for this game is incredibly cute. I loved just watching the little farmer wander around. The sfx and music were well suited. I wished there was a way to keep track of the day night cycle so I know how much longer until night fall. I also wish the water bucket would just auto fill to max rather than having to press a bunch of times.

With some further fleshing out I feel like this could be a fun little game. Give the player some additional tools and a few more things to do and build, and it could be a lot of fun! Great job!

@cukeds
I thought a similar thing had happened to me with a plant dying, but what had happened was that the plant was in the top corner of my farming patch and one of the growing stages was the same color as the surrounding grass so it just blended in and looked like the whole patch had disappeared. I watered that spot and then it continued growing.

@jason-wilson Ah, good point about certain crop stages blending in. I tried to keep to the color palette, but I'd probably have to fix how it looks on the edges. Thanks for playing!

I really enjoyed this! I really love what you did with the gameplay and aesthetic, the art is just too cute, and so is the music. The music did get a bit repetitive after a while, so if you continue working on the game I'd recommend extending the loop a bit. Another thing I noticed is that I kept trying to push number keys to change weapon (used to Minecraft & Stardew controls) so you might consider exploring that? These are all just suggestions - the core idea is really fun, and your execution is impressive. I hope you will continue working on this one! I want to keep exploring the world, and I'm so curious what else you might add in future versions and what direction you'd take it. Great work!

It is just like Minecraft.Everything can be dug.I like the playing method as well as the art.Only a problem is the animation.I think the animation is kind of strange because the speed scale is too low. Also, the whole game isn't very
interesting because I should keep digging and plangting!I don't know if there are enemies but I haven't met.I can't talk more about the game because it was made in 48 hours. The best things you have is the pixel art,the music and the harvest!I like this game and I have to figure out some problems.

This is a charming little game that I found myself playing for longer than I thought. I really like how you can only build up to terraces from below but you cannot go down wherever you want, stopped me from straying too far. The world gen suits the gameplay really well. The graphics are simple but pleasing. The game doesn't do a lot of explaining but I liked experimenting but I had to glance at the Controls section a good few times which took me out of it. Overall solid entry :)

This is just a really nice fully featured game, impressive for a compo jam! At first I was a bit confused but I figured out how to do everything after a bit of experimentation which was fun.

Incredibly beautiful color palet here! Graphics are so simple, yet so well done. I really love the attention to detail like when you have a non-square field and it's not a perfect shape, but edges somewhere are imperfect. Love it! I would realy love to be able to switch between items by pressing 1-9 on the keyboard though, that would be awesome!

I love thoses simplified versions of famous games, here you made a ultra-simplified-version-of-stardew-valley, and it works pretty well ! Everything is pretty intuitive, thanks to the grid and the tools.
The combination of grinding, harvesting, watering and surviving works great.
I was wondering if your map had a limit and I checked :) It's a pretty big map!
I lasted for 15 days.
Congrats for this game I loved!

I liked this a lot! It was a very calming and relaxing experience to just grow my crops while scouting the wilds for more seeds to grow. The soothing music and cute artwork also all contributed to that feeling :D
I think the gameplay loop was very solid, but I would have loved a more formal ending I guess. Or perhaps a faster difficulty scaling? I understand that is too much to ask for a Compo game though :P

I really liked this! Thanks a lot for making it :D

I like the minimalist art. The pacing is a little bit slow. I do not know if this is intentional, but it feels like the day/night cycle is very quick but moving around and finding the grass and going back to your crops, it takes time.

I would have probably added number keys as a shortcut for the toolbar items, too.

The environment is nice and I lik the that you can travel around and explore the world.

Hi congrats on completing the game. The first of this kind I am playing in this JAM. So points for innovation. World feels a bit empty to begin with, I know time was a constraint but some small animals and animated bushes will bring this to life. Kudos on completing lil animation too feels better with animation

Neat implementation of a mini survival game! The pixel art is charming and I like how simple and straightforward the systems are. The requirement to sleep at night is interesting, and is a great way to show the crop growth in substantial chunks of time. Discovering simple things is satisfying, like how you start with 5 water in your bucket but it can actually hold more than that. The world really reminds me of Zelda 1 or something, and I kept hoping to find secret walls or some hidden areas when out exploring the world. If you add more later, I'd love to play it!

Wow, this is really great! Even with how low-res the pixel art is, I easy understood what each tool was. The day lengths were just right, short enough to generate some urgency, but not so short that I couldn't get anything done. The audio was pretty simple and a bit boring, but the style sort of fit the game at the same time.
