Automatoes by Cievers

[raw]
made by Cievers for Ludum Dare 52 (JAM)

After a hard day's work, what's better than letting all the specifics of the harvest melt away into a shapely collection of colors. Simulate the growth, interaction, and harvest of out-of-this world crops, and reap in your own dreamy atmosphere. Relax and enjoy the stressless toy that is Automatoes.

Hi @808074, it's indeed supposed to me more than a music performance :p

It seems our last-minute fix indeed broke the intro sequence, but that should be fixed as of now!

I liked the overall atmosphere and the music. Maybe I'd add instructions for the user input (even on this page would be fine) since I randomly discovered that space bar advances the generation :D

Ssssst @simsax, that's a development feature that should not have been in there ;)

Interesting concept, has the same-ish feel as the game of life

Nice minimalistic game. The graphics and audio go well together and are very relaxing. About the gameplay... does it actually end at some point or do you even have a score of some kind? at some point i just played it like a rapid clicker to collect all the (mostly blue) tomatoes but i'm not sure if thats what i was supposed to do. Is there a win condition? Still, good job, especially on the graphics + audio design

I enjoyed this a lot :) very chill. I can definitely confirm there are side-effects on non-standard resolutions though XD

You can deep think about your life choices while playing this true art of minimalizm.

great mood.
I think having more animation (like the tomatoes visibly growing or some kind of audio/visible feedback when planting) would really benefit the relaxing experience.
Other than that, nice job!

Big mood. No doubt about that.

This is a beautiful game to look at and listen to. Very chill and that is honestly a refreshing change of pace from the soul reaper type games from this jam.

I hope you can add a new function that Player can save the progress as a video and play it.

I liked it. I think? No, I did. I didn't really understand what I was doing, but I enjoyed my time. You all did a great job on the audio. Overall, I think I would say that I harvested things in a very zen way.

This looks beautiful and awesome! Unfortunately, I can't run your build on MacOS (intel) :(

I'll try later on windows, I don't want to miss this.

Just tried it. I love the minimalist esthetics and relaxing atmosphere. I enjoyed placing a few vegetables and leave the game window open on my desktop to watch them grow and replicate slowly. Nice automaton game, great work!

It was a good game, didn't have to be complex to be fun or cool looking. The interaction between crops was interesting. The red was fun to make patterns with. :)

This is a virtual version of taking a shower! You are just there, with your thoughts. I like it, but I would describe it as an experience instead of a game. As a game, it is not really fun. There is no goal, no end. Just the squares growing. As a relaxing excercise, this is so much fun and a welcome breath of fresh air after playing some very intense games. So, thank you!

I really liked this. I can see the systems and patterns forming underneath and I could see this becoming a really deep and challenging game if you pushed those elements. Right now it's perfectly pleasing. Kudos

Nice spin on the Game of Life but i'm struggling to see how this fits the theme. Perhaps i'm a bit too harsh on simulation games but i'm also struggling to see them as games per se. That being said, it was a pleasant and relaxing experience that's definitely well executed regardless.
