A Story of the Diabolical Doctor Shelly

DisassemblyLineIntroPreview.png

In this tongue-in-cheek endless horror game extract as many organs as you can deep within a questionable lab filled with conveyer belts and mysterious bodies. Time ticks away in your pursuit to provide the basic building blocks of the overseer’s monstrous creations – brains, hearts, lungs and kidneys. Constructing the ultimate abomination requires lots of fleshy essentials, so use the color-coded tools to deposit fresh meat before the heartless Dr. Shelly (do they even have a degree?) snaps and harvests you instead!

table.PNG

Controls

 • Use Arrow Keys to move around the lab.
 • Press E to pick up tools and extract matching organs.
 • Push Spacebar for short sprints.
 • Deposit organs in the top right chute.

PC.png

Tips

 • Only one tool and one organ can be carried at once.
 • Organs decay over time, so discover and prioritize their value before it’s too late!
 • Suspicious bodies are often damaged, so mix and match tools to randomized cadavers.
 • Dr. Shelly is never placated.

Nice game, once you harvested both organs are you still supposed to gain wrath?

interesting take on the theme. I had some trouble getting it to actually harvest the organs, but other than that it was a cute concept.

great game! the controls are tight and responsive , the mechanics are easy to understand , it has good learning curve, specific tools are needed for specific organs, and must be harvested on time, the game is appropriate with the theme, overall I enjoyed playing! congratulations! keep it up!

Nice drawings, I especially like the cover. I hoped the tool sound effect would be more diverse, the organ sprites look cool, but it was hard to see because of the tint. The top conveyor belt has a weird hitbox where you can't walk near it from the bottom. Cool game!

Nice splash cover.
The concept is cool, I'm a bit sad it don't go further more !

Organ harvesting - great idea! I wish the camera would be more zoomed in, so I could see all those nice pixel arts a bit better. Good story and music, good job!

Fun game! Games like this one are really hard to balance properly and here I didn't find it too easy or too hard, so great job on that!

The title screen looks rad as heck! (The game over screen too!) the background in game is a bit lacking though. I ran into that issue while making my own game this jam, and my solution was just to add a repeating polka dot pattern. It's not a perfect solution, but it prevents the background from simply being a flat single color.

I think it's a bit interesting how the final score includes a lot of decimals. You might want to truncate it to just one or two. On the topic of small improvements, the quit button on the title screen also starts the game, ha!

I wish the controls were explained somewhere in game, with either a tutorial, or just off to the side of the screen until you've interacted with everything. (or at least on the itch page somewhere.) I know the controls are mentions here on the ludum dare page, but it's nice to have them mentioned in game.

I think the gameplay is a little too slow. I'm not sure if it ramps up in difficulty, and if it does it needs to happen sooner. The bodies on the conveyors move at an incredibly slow rate, and honestly, after a scoring a few points I lost interest in playing. I don't want to sound too negative, I just wish there was some more to do.

The artwork in game is cute, and I love the scooping sound effects. ha! Nice work.

The audio was bopping and the idea was quite good. It took me a while to recognize that the tools are color coded. The confusion wasn't helped that this page has the tools for lungs and kidneys swapped as far as I can tell. The biggest problem for me was that lines didn't seem to accelerate at all, so there were multiple times when I was just standing there with no organs to harvest. It's important in the kind of games you can't actually beat that the difficulty ends the run before the player's patience does.

Nice work on the graphics, especially on the title screen / splash image. I didn't expect to play that much, but it was quite entertaining. The controls / interacting on the edges were a little clunky sometimes but it could be related to my browser. Had fun with it, nice job! :)

Its a little evident that the time spent on art wasn't distributed evenly. This had some of the best and worst art I've seen from this ludum dare which is quite impressive. The gameplay was enjoyable at first but it was way too easy. And the difficulty never scaled so most people probably don't see the game over screen unless they try to.

I don't know if there is an ending. I played until I had more than 20 points. It was fun at the begining, then a little repetitive, perhaps I played too long :D.

The game is a too easy. I never had to sprint, which I think tells something is wrong with the game balance.

The game is understandable without reading the instruction, good job on that. And the audio fits well. Good work!

It's a really fun concept, while a bit janky with some collisions and button presses it turned out to be quite entertaining :) I have to agree with @pndaa that I didn't feel particularly challenged at any point during the game, but honestly rather too easy than too hard.

Also the art was a bit mixed, some of it was really good, but other felt more like a placeholder. The sound effects for the organs and the tools were really great btw! good job!

Had some issues with the harvesting (can't harvest from the underside, not clear that the button needs to be held). Once I figured it out it became a fun frantic game of prioritization. Great Job! I love the sound and the art, they remind me a bit of tapper.

I liked the music! Game concept is a nice base and can probably be adapted upon, but definitely asking for some sort of difficulty progression + mechanics that help you deal with that. For example maybe the organs start coming in faster, and instead of making your way to the chute you can throw the organs from across the room into the chute (saving you time if you can pull it off).

Quick tip for Unity; when you're doing pixel graphics, you'll likely want to draw it in the native resolution of the screen (so that there isn't scaling), and if you need scaling then in your image settings set Compression to None. That way you don't get that blurring.

Nice work!

Was a bit hard to figure out how to carry and deposit the organs as there was no indicator if one was holding it.

On the other hand I liked the bgm track and the art. The chara one plays as is cute.

Great use of the theme! I would have liked to be able to harvest organ from the bottom of the conveyor belt, but besides that, it's a fun time :)
