Spaceman Spam's Delivery Service by sillyman987

[raw]
made by sillyman987 for Ludum Dare 52 (JAM)

Your name is Spam. Spaceman Spam. After getting a job with a rock refinery and delivery service, Jourd Inc., you were brought to XCGQ-221 to mine the natural resources and send them to Jourd Inc. in return for money. Use this money to build water turrets and upgrade your pickaxe. The rocks outside your small base are 3x as valuable as the rock inside your base, but beware the bugs! These creatures will attack you and destroy your walls! If one touches you, you lose! But if you manage to collect $1,000, you win and the delivery service comes to pick you up!

Controls: WASD to move and go to the conveyor belt then hit E when the little E pops up to deposit your rock

Oh, and by the way, here's a few tips for winning: 1. Upgrading your pickaxe is good 2. Bugs are bad 3. You start with 2 turrets but you do need to make more and your walls only have so much health 4. Good luck and have fun! Screenshot 2023-01-09 161254.png

Love this! I wasn't sure how the controls worked at first or how to sell my stone but eventually I got it. Great tension between wanting to harvest faster and escaping the bugs! I was really sad when the bugs got me

It was a lot of fun once i had the bugs following me inside and then having madness and chaos everywhere :D

Pretty neat concept. I liked the art, reminds me of old school shareware PC games.

I found it was easy to exploit the invincible door during waves of bugs and have them move toward it and be virtually safe.

I managed to place turrets in such a way as to block my way out. Luckily I had enough rocks left in my base to finish the game, but it was a bit frustrating. Easiest way to avoid that might be to remove collision between the turrets and the player.

One of my turrets was firing side ways out of its nozzle for some reason, which was an odd bug.

I think it would be a bit more fun if you had more rock piles but with less total rocks to mine. It'd give a greater sense of progression to see the rock piles used up and it forcing you to move progressively further and further away from your home base.

Great work!

@Jason-Wilson Thanks for your feedback! The turret firing out of the side is a strange bug that I wasn't able to fix unfortunately.

I'm liking all the upgradeable gameplay that the compo has brought out. Cool idea, I would like to see some music/sounds.

Pretty fun entry! It's a little on the grindy side, but it was entertaining enough that I wanted to make it impossible to lose. XD

Nice try! There is a potential as in any other tower defense games, would be nice to have the world a bit more living, with some more things, maybe sounds.
Anyways great job!

A bit grindy like previously mentioned, but overall a good simple coffee-break concept that works! Some feedback to the umph when the turret hit the creatures would be nice, perhaps flashing the sprite with a different color and sounds to give even more of it. I can see there are infinite possibilities of things to add and polish with the concept though, so if you got the motivation - keep on working on it!

Spam's base is eternal now. There is no going home. There is only conquest.

Simple concept that works well. A few bugs (GUI behind turrets and negative rocks as others already mentioned), but besides that I embraced the grind and built a base out of turret-walls.
