Farm On Wheels by Igor Minenko

[raw]
made by Igor Minenko for Ludum Dare 52 (JAM)

Welcome to our game "Farm on Wheels"!(use full-screen it for the best immersion!) We are participating in the game jam for the first time, we hope that you will like our project!

A monstrous catastrophe has engulfed the earth, and now people are forced to survive in different ways. You are an experienced farmer who was able to equip his minivan for seed cultivation. Going along an endless abandoned road, you will buy seeds from muddy merchants and sell vegetables to other wanderers, in the hope that this road will lead you to a place where you can settle down in peace.

Management:

"Space" - Open/Close The Farm

"Esc" - Open The Exit Window

"Drag&Drop" - Plant Bags Of Seeds In The Beds

"Left Click" - Harvest

In the future, we hope to add more content and mechanics (buying trailers to expand the farm, fuel and water supplies, more objects to interact with along the way)

I couldn't find the game on itch.io? It says there's no page set up yet

@ben-toosey Everything should be fine now, thanks for the feedback

I like it! The graphics are perfect for the theme. I do wish the background music looped but maybe the radio ran out of batteries.

Fun little farming sim on wheels! Wish there was more to do with your money like upgrades to farm faster or more plots, but honestly had a lot of fun doing all the core farming sim activities!

I liked the characters pixel art along with the van that had "FARM" written clearly on it(this farmer is a true business man). The idea of growing food while on the way to deliver said food to the customer sounds like one hell of a business plan (showing how high IQ the farmer is). The game was pretty simple. It didn't take me long to just buy the highest priced goods and sell them. I guess if there was variation in time of growth it would've helped make it deeper. But for a first time jam game you guys did pretty good. Great job and much love.

This is a pretty cool idea, I like the way you stock up on supplies and then grow your crops before you land at another place to trade them. It would be nice to have some goal, or maybe have the crops be more difficult to grow in some way, maybe they could wither if not harvested correctly or something? I really like the art, its cute pixely and clear what everything is. Overall good job its nice :)

@mrnotcrazy thanks for the answer, the radio really ran out of batteries, but now the music should be looped :-)

The core gameplay loop was fun at first but started getting stale after a few minutes. Some more varied encounters would be nice. I love the post-apocalyptic farm-on-wheels aesthetic!

Love the graphics and the comfort that in the catastrophic future, people with vans will be able to grind out a living.

Graphics do their job, though inconsistent pixel size is bit jarring and numbers should use some other colours so they wont disappear into background. Also I think drag and drop "cursor" is bit offset.

Did not found if there is any deeper mechanism than buy, plant, harvest, sell, but what little there is, works solid.

@jormarysky thank you for your review, we didn't have time already to create much more mechanics, such as upgrading car, final goal and so on and it was our the first ame jam, it isn't an excuse yeah, but anyway, we've got lots of experience

Really like the concept, and the music makes the whole atmosphere pop. Relaxing and fun as well <3

cute. A little monotonous, might be more interesting if there were more variation in how long it took to grow the crops or something, or maybe if there were more you could do to affect the outcome, but for the time frame to make it, it's a very nice, functional game that does in fact work, and in spite of the monotony I played it for way longer than I probably should have.

I was surprised at how much I liked the art and the how polished it seemed. Good idea keeping the game play simple, I'm sure there are lots of things you would like to add but a well done simple idea is often better than a complex one that doesn't work or isn't finished.

The base concept is quite interesting. I can really see a rpg strategy game where you cross the country on your little farm van, buying upgrades, going through events, etc...

Nice graphics. Do the job. Add more seeds and some variations in the time they take to grow and you have a great game !

Great first entry and concept for a game. The mechanics were easy to pick up, and I can see that with added features it would be fun to keep playing for a long time.
It was relaxing to play even though after a while it gets monotonous. Enjoyed the pixel environment, the mood of this game is very nice.

A nice little game, albeit a bit repetitive. I really liked the pixel art and the parallax effect, but it was quite disorienting that the ground moves at a different speed than the road that's on it! :) Very nice atmosphere though, would love to see some more mechanics to improve the replayability.

Interesting game. The art is cool. Introducing different times for the various vegetables would help to increase variety.

Simple concept but well done ! Love the mood and the graphis. Maybe not pausing the game when harvestin (and risking to miss shop) would have feel a bit more challenging. Congrats !

Not bad, you have a good idea, but you need to expand this game to a more complex system.

Nice entry! The game mechanics are super easy to understand. I like the endless aspect of earning fat stacks of cash, but as others mentioned, it does get stale after a few minutes.

Really like the take on the theme and the graphics are so cute and nostalgic somehow. Definitely needs a bit more flesh to increase playtime but regardless it's a fantastic entry for a first jam and i would like to play a slighty expanded version of it if it ever gets released.

I loved the setting, the graphics and colour palette really suited it! The gameplay loop would have been more fun had some kind of challenges been added (bandits that steal your crops? Gas station stops where you have to buy fuel for your truck to run?) but overall I like the core concept a lot!
