Harvest Square by xCarl

[raw]
made by xCarl for Ludum Dare 52 (JAM)

As a farmer, you have to plant your crops, but in order to harvest them you have to make a square of the same crops.

Controls: Mouse to drag and drop the crops into the farmlands

Plant the crops and make squares of 3x3 of the same crop. The bigger the square, more points it gives! You lose when the new form can't fit in the board.

Fun idea!

It was a little hard for me at first but it went more and more addictive as I retried. I wish there was a way to rotate the shape tetris-style!

Nice game overall :)

i thought i'd gotten the hang of it and my second run was a lot shorter than the first
fun game, it might feel a bit unfair at times as a wrong piece will completely wreck any sort of order you had going, but thats just something that happens with chances

Fun game. A little random.
The rotate function could be a nice thing to add.

Hey, you made a nice little game here. I think you did really wel for a jam game. The graphics are consistent. So well done.

I think being able to rotate the crops you get as Anoushcat suggest is a very good idea. I even believe you can borrow another mechanic of tetris. At the moment, it is quite difficult to plan ahead in your game. I just get random crops and I have to be lucky that I get them in the right order. To make it a little bit more predictible, I think showing the comming crops might really help. This will make me able to plan ahead and choose more strategically here I want to place my current crop. Like in tetris, i can see the next 4 comming blocks.

Very chill, meditative gameplay! I enjoyed the process of learning and polishing my technique. I think this has the potential to be a cool mini game for a bigger project. I'd either like to be able to rotate pieces or perhaps see which one's coming up next. And perhaps for the early game, stroke the player's ego a bit by generating pieces that "just so happen" to fit exactly what the player needs. Giving the player early success will keep them around longer. Well done, I really liked it!

Very relaxing to play, took a little bit to understand the rules. Overall fun tetris-like game! I think this game could use a rotate function but overall this one's good!

Played once, got 1014, it's good. There's some improvements that would make the game better. Consider showing the next piece like Tetris does, this would add a layer of strategy to the game. Allowing us to rotate crops too would be helpful.

this was an interesting game. it was interesting to plan around leaving spaces open in a certain way so the most pieces could fill it.

Fun idea! I also wished pieces could rotate. I could imagine that'd make it harder to balance the game but here's how I think that could work:

* pieces start arriving on a timer
* press up and down to select between them
* press left and right to rotate
* the selected piece is visible on the field as you hover your mouse over it and planted when you click the mouse
* pieces start arriving faster and faster until you can't keep up
* non-square areas (like 4x3) should also clear

Anyways, I love puzzle games and yours has some cool mechanics. Nicely done!

I was expecting a simple match-3 game but actually I enjoyed this ! The gameplay is simple but effective, and I find this quite satisfying when you manage to get the perfect missing piece to fit the remaining space.
The graphics are cute and pleasant to look at, so well done for this nice little game !

662, cool game I think it glitched out a bit when I filled in 2 3x3s at the same time and 3 plants got cleared in a row instead of a 3x3 square and then for some reason I could still pickup the plant I placed down and it broke I couldn't put it back in its spot and both plants (it was a 2x1) has a green box on it, I really liked the game, I'm not very good at tetris, I'm not sure if you are trying to stray away from tetris a bit, but I would have like rotation. cool game though :)
