Jerry and the Sunlight by jeremyfa

[raw]
made by jeremyfa for Ludum Dare 52 (JAM)

The temperature on the planet has risen dramatically, and the sun is emitting deadly gamma rays, forcing people to live underground. However, they need to harvest the sunlight in order to power their homes.

Play Jerry, a technician living underground, and guide the mirrors to direct the sunlight to the generator using your remote control.

This was initially supposed to be a COMPO entry, but I ran out of time. Didn't have time to create levels (there are only two tiny examples of levels unfortunately), the system is still incomplete and not without bugs, so it is more a technical proof of concept than an actual game.

Still happy to post it!

I will certainly continue working on this game after the jam as I have many ideas to complete on the initial idea.

Things that were planned but not included because not enough time - The sunlight was supposed to be deadly gamma rays, so the player would be harmed and fail if touching it - Platforms/doors that could interact with the remote control as well and allow for better puzzles - Two mode for the remote control: short range (already implemented), and long range (not implemented) to switch all devices at the same time

How to play - Keyboard: Arrows to move, Space to use the remote control - Gamepad: Directional pad or stick, A to use the remote control

The idea with mirrors is cool, it's a pity that there are few levels.

Knowing your party week-end, that's a nice entry man! There is a lot of potential for a longer game!

This is not included in the above prototype, that was an unfinished attempt to create a more advanced level ⬇️

Some useful mechanics were missing to actually create a usable level though, but nothing I could implement within the jam time frame, so hopefully that will come in a post-jam version!

Really cool start to the game! The footage you have of the more advanced level looks really sweet too, love the concept of using sunlight in a puzzle game like this. Great work, and Haxe gang forever!

It looks nice and the picture you placed in the comments gives me more insight how you can make it more of a puzzle. That I was not yet able to see. But looking above, it might be very interesting to continue this project! I would love to see where this is going.

It was quite short but I really liked the prototype- it would make a great game if fully developed.

A nice little proof of concept!
I could see puzzles where you have to position yourself right because all missord within your radius flip. Maybe you have to flip multiple at a time, etc.
A solid start.

Like the idea. It would be interesting to have to solve the puzzle with the added danger of deadly gamma rays. Good luck with developing the concept!

Well, the mechanics are there, it would be cool if you expanded on the idea in a postjam version! If you do, please add a restart button, I was curious about what happens when I try to go through exit when the puzzle isn't solved and got soft-locked :)
